Quiz18.5.20

Date: 18th May 2020 @ 9:24am

Good morning !

Hope you have had a fantastic weekend.

Mrs Glover set us a tricky flag challenge on Friday ! But, we love a challenge and Naomi smiley correctly identified the flags as Demark (Danish), Norway ( Norwegian) and Sweden ( Swedish) and the connection is that sometimes these countries are grouped together with Finland and Iceland and called Scandinavia.

Well done also to Michelle, Heer , Ganesa and Zarek who also got most of the information right ! Great work !

How about this one for today: Can you name the country and who lived in the same area around 5000 years ago?

Good luck everyone !

Monday 18th May - Maths

Date: 18th May 2020 @ 9:20am

Good Morning Reception!

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend. Can you email and share what you have enjoyed doing the most?

Let’s warm up for our maths learning this morning by listening to some of our favourite maths songs and completing the fluent-in-five questions below…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0Ajq682yrA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MVzXKfr6e8&t=3s

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TgLtF3PMOc&t=17s

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGetqbqDVaA

We can show our numbers in many different ways! Take a look at this Jack Hartman video below to remind you of the different representations!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAQ2HTqTl2w

Today in our maths blog, we are going to be looking at how our numbers are represented in ‘tens frames’ and using them to help us with our early addition skills! Thinking about numbers using frames of ten can be a helpful way to learn basic number facts.

Here is a link to a website which helps children to develop addition skills using a ten frame. Click on option ‘4. Add’ https://www.nctm.org/Classroom-Resources/Illuminations/Interactives/Ten-Frame/

You should see this on your screen:

Let’s work this first one out together! We have to use the tens frames to work out 7 + 7

In the first tens frame, I am going to count 7 counters, and then select ‘done’.

As the addition calculation is 7 + 7, I need to add another 7 counters into the second frame…

Now I have to ‘combine’ both tens frames together. This means we have to move over the blue counters to fill the tens frame so that we can clearly count all of the counters in an easier way.

Now that I have dragged over my blue counters, I can clearly see that the top tens frame is full – it is clear to see that I have ‘10’ counters in the top frame.

To make my counting easier, I can start counting from ‘10’ from the top frame and continue counting the blue counters in the frame below. I can see I need to add on 4 more..

Yay! First question complete! We have worked out the addition calculation 7 + 7 = 14. Can you have a go at working some out on your own??

I can’t wait to see pictures of your super work! J Good luck!

Monday 18th May Reading

Date: 18th May 2020 @ 9:07am

Good Morning Reception!!

This week we are going to continue using the story ‘The Snail and the Whale.’ If you haven’t managed t listen to the story, use the link below:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000cslw/the-snail-and-the-whale

Start by playing one word. Take turns with someone at home to say one word from the story. For example, snail, whale, soot, rock, sea, parrot, crab, school, children, penguins and so on.

Today I want you to read the sentences below. After you have read the sentences from the story, can you draw a picture to match the sentence? This will show that you have understood what you have read.

The snail sat on a black rock with his friends.

The big whale came out at night when the stars were in the sky.

The sea crashed on the rocks with the snail on the back of the whale.

Extra challenge – Can you make up your own sentence from the story and draw a picture?

Good morning Year 5!

I hope you've all had a lovely weekend, we've just about recovered from the excitement of Livvi's birthday, but the birthday fun has returned for today - it's my birthday! I've already had a lovely morning of opening presents and cards, some lovely birthday messages from my friends and family, and have just come downstairs to see a big pile of carrot cake cupcakes made by Jon, Livvi and Asaph!

Hope you also have a great day today - let us know what you get up to by getting in touch on our email: Y5homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

--

This week is also Mental Health Awareness Week. The theme this year is 'kindness.'

I know  that you have all been doing a wonderful job of completing Mrs Glover's daily wellbeing challenges, and that you have all been working extremely hard at home - each and every one of you should be proud yourself (grown ups too!).

I've attached a video to do with this years theme, and I was wondering if every day this week you could do an 'act of kindness' and let us know what you did. This morning I've already made my Mum a cup of tea which is my kind act for the day.

Miss Brookes

Here is the fluent in five for today!

If you want some help with the multiplying fractions, take a look back to last Wednesday's blog where there are video clips which will explain the method to you. Remember from class - it's easier than it looks!

And here are the answers!

Good Morning Year 5 from Miss Brookes!

Happy Birthday Mrs Hodges heart I hope you have a fabulous day - you really do deserve it!

This week's GVP is slightly different, as there are no videos. As we've studied each of our year 5 objectives, and recapped some of our year 4 objectives, I have decided that this week I am going to give you six questions each day with are about a variety of GVP skills. At 1pm (I always forget this part, so I've even set an alarm!) I'm going to give you all the answers.

If there's a question that you don't understand, email me and let me know, and then I will create a showme video explaining it to you.

Here is todays:

Hello Nursery!

It’s lovely to be back on the Nursery blog. It’s my turn to be posting lots of activities and challenges this week and Miss Heritage is busy thinking of some more fun things to do with you next week.

‘Nursery, Nursery what do you know? Teach me all about how plants grow’

These are challenges to complete any time over the coming week:

Connected Curriculum Weekly Challenge

This week I want you to complete one or more of the challenges on the list. You’re choosing your favourite ways to show me and Miss Heritage what you have learned over the past few weeks about growing and caring for plants.

Reading Weekly Challenge

We are going to read through the story ‘The Tiny Seed’ by Eric Carle and as I read it I want you predict what will happen to the seeds. After that you will be able to tell me all of the interesting things that happen in the story and create drawings with initial sound labels on them.

Vocabulary Weekly Challenge

Then you are going to complete one of the verbs action challenges to show me how you move. You can use the vocabulary spinner too.

Home Learning

Send any photos or videos of the challenges you complete at home to me by Friday and I’ll put them all up on the blog for you to share with your friends. This is one of my favourite parts of blogging from home so please send lots and lots of photos or short videos in.

Monday sentence of the day and phonics

Date: 17th May 2020 @ 7:12pm

Good Morning Year 1 and happy Monday!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend. I know it has been a long time since we have been in school and sometimes your home learning might feel a bit tricky but keep up the amazing work and don’t give up, as the more practice you have at home, the easier your learning will be when we eventually go back. Fingers crossed it won’t be too long until it’s safe for us to be in school.

Sentence of the day

Well done to all of those children who completed Friday’s sentence of the day.

On Monday Jack came home with a handful of magical beans. His mother was furious and she threw them out of the window.

Today’s sentence of the day focusses on those tricky words that you looked at on Friday. Are they all spelt correctly in this sentence?

Cud the elephants stand on thair heads?

Did Misus Green ask Mista Green for some cake?

Ow wow shouted the peepul when the dolphin flipped in the air.

Phonics

Let’s start our phonics by quickly recapping those tricky words. Write your tricky words onto scraps of paper and place them around the room. Play the tricky word video. When the song says the tricky word go and stand on that word.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbcZnb2iz1c

Today’s phonics will be focussing on those consonant blends that have three letters. Watch this video and see if you can spot the three letter blends that we are looking at today.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YfuGb8f7Jo

Challenge one – When you have watched the video write down all of the three letter blends that you saw. Practice saying the blends so that you are confident in how they should sound when you read a word.

thr              scr              spr              spl               str              shr

Challenge two – Look at the words below. Can you sort them into the three letter consonant blend groups?

strictest                        throbbing              thriller                           strum                             stretcher              splinter

throne                            scream                  sprout

splashing                         straw                    shrill

thrash                            shredder               splitter

Can you think of any other words that can be put into the different consonant blend groups?

Challenge three- Now its time to go on a blend search. Read the story on https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/4/interactive-story-book

How many different words with the three letter consonant blends did you find?

Hope you all have a lovely day!
