In writing, are preparing to write a non-fition book to describe the materials used to build a house. First we started by learning about how a house is built and what materials are used to build them. The next day, we explored some of the materials by visiting stations in the class room. As a class, we used our senses to describe brick, wood, slate and plastic to generate lots of adjectives for our working window. We will use these adjectives within our non-fiction books when we come to write them.

Today in Nursery our learning centred around Remembrance. We watched a video that helps younger children understand this important time of year.
Here it is for you to look at again over the weekend, with your children at home - Poppies by the BBC
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
We talked about how the animals felt at different points in the animation and lots of the children showed a good understanding of the changing emotions. One child stated, "It's the soldier's light' at the point in which the poppies began to grow again after war. This was a beautful moment of insight to share with his class.
Everybody used either their scissor skills to snip or their talking fingers to tear grass for the poppies to grow in. Later on the children chose if they wanted to create a poppy. They followed Steps 2 Success to make tissue paper or painted poppies. Here is the picture from the end of the animation that inspired us and then our very own field of Remembrance Day Poppies. We hope you love it as much as we do.

Yesterday and today, during story time, Nursery had a special visitor. One of the junior children came to read one of her favourite stories to us. The Nursery children were an excellent audience, looking and listening and joining in with words and actions. Our visitor told the story with such good intonation and expression. Maybe she will become a Nursery teacher when she grows up?

We have also completed lots of different challenges to label the features a house. We have designed and labelled a house using graph paper and then used the constrcution blocks to build our designs. We have used card, tissue paper and shiny paper to create a collage houses and named their features. We have been busy in our funky fingers area, using the sticks or peg boards to make houses, we then labelled the features using post its.

Welcome back!
It has been a lovely first week back in 2AH, I have enjoyed hearing all about the children's half-term break and seeing all of the amazing holiday homework creations. The children were so excited on Tuesday to show their creations to the rest of the class and these are now on display in our shared area.
History
This week we have launched our new History topic: Could the Great Fire of London Happen in Clayton?
The children have discussed what they would like to learn about the Great Fire of London and have made some amazing silhouttes of the Great Fire to add to our classroom display. This half term we will be doing a lot of activities all about the Great Fire of London and I am very excited to see the children become immersed in their exploration.
English
We have also started our new unit in English, Poetry. The children will be writing poems linked to the Great Fire of London and this week we have been reading poems all about bonfire night, finding adjectives that describe the sounds, colours and shapes of the fire. I was very impressed with the amazing adjectives that the children contributed to our class working wall and look forward to see how they apply these to their own poems.
Diwali
To celebrate the Hidu celebration of Diwali - The Festival of Light, we made our own diya candle holders. The children used their fine motor skills to make their diya's from clay and we look forward to painting these and bringing them home to light with our families next week. Just look at how proud the children were of their work!

Just before the half term holidays, Year 6 joined Nursery for a Harvest Celebration. The Nursery children had been learning about how farmers harvest the food during Autumn. They also found out why farmers use scarecrows. Nursery loved the scarecrows so much that they learned and then performed a song and dance about them to the older children.

Knowing how much Year 6 like to dance, the Nursery children then paired up and danced a Samba! Harvest Samba
The younger children loved sharing their learning with Year 6 and we hope to do it again very soon. Thank you Year 6 for being an amaxing audience and for looking after us.

You can't take an elephant on a bus fact files!
Date: 27th Oct 2024 @ 4:42pm
On the last week of school we wrote some fact files about why you can't take an elephant on a bus. This fact file was our final piece of independent writing to finish this unit off. The build up included some skills lessons on how to use adjectives and the conjunction 'and.' It was based on the story 'You can't take an elephant on the bus!'
Listen to the story using this link:

Year 4 shares their writing with Year 3
Date: 19th Oct 2024 @ 7:32pm
Both Year 3 and Year 4 have worked extremely hard in their writing lessons this half-term. They've written myths, instructions, non-chronological reports, and diary entries! As part of their writing focus, year 4 chose year 3 as their target audience.
Year 3 were able to listen to year 4 share their amazing Maya myths, whilst providing positive feedback about the skills the children had clearly practised and worked hard at including.
This was a great experience for both year groups, and year 3 look forward to sharing their writing with year 4 soon!
Our Final Week Before Half Term
Date: 18th Oct 2024 @ 5:27pm
What a busy week!
On Monday we carried out the start of our science investigation linked to teeth. We put three eggs into cups of different liquides to see the damage they would do. We added water to one, orange juice to another and coke to another. We predicted the coke would rot the egg shell and cause the most damage. On Friday we were surprised to see that it was in fact the orange juice that damaged the egg shell the most. It did contain more sugar.
On Tuesday we had fun making our burrito. We followed our designs and got to take home the burrito as a tasty treat.
On Wednesday I was lucky enough to go swimming and it was great to see all of the children enjoying their lesson and trying really hard.
On Thursday we were very lucky to have a visit from the wheelchair sports coach and have a workshop on wheelchair sports. It was so much fun. We learned new skills and had an amazing experience.
On Friday, after woring so hard all week we had our Golden Time where we dressed up in lots of fun costumes and really laughed so much.
Well I'm shattered now and I imagine all the children are too! Have a fantastic week off and don't forget to do your holiday homework. See you after the holidays on Tuesday morning.

Inclusion Sports Workshops
This week A1 Multisport and Coach Kane returned to school to deliver wheelchair sports activities the children. The aim was to deepen our understanding of what inclusion in sport means. As you can see below, the children had a lot of fun in the wheelchairs, going around the space and learning different skills such as spinning in a circle.
We are explorers
As we come to the end of our 'Travelling from Pole to Pole' topic in Geography, the children enjoyed working together to make fact-file posters about the different contients we have been exploring. The children used their knowledge from lessons and investigated resources to show the names of countries within the continents, the climates and animals that live there.
Excellent English
This week, the children completed their own instructional text pieces following the learning we have been doing in English. Inspired by our class text 'The Disgusting Sandwich', the children have made their own disgusting sandwich recepies. We have had a big focus this half term on using time connectives, adjectives and expanded noun phrases. I am so proud of how hard the children have worked in their writing lessons and the features they have used to complete their pieces.
Thank you for all of your support during our first half term! I cannot wait to see the amazing creations the children bring back as part of their holiday homework.
Have a lovely time creating!
Miss Hindle.
Thank you for all of your ongoing support during the childrens first half term in Year 2. It was lovely being able to have discussions with all the parents and carers at our pupil progress evenings and I am very excited for the topics that we will be working on next half term. This week in maths we made polygons with straws
Date: 11th Oct 2024 @ 5:19pm
A polygon is a 2D closed shape with straight sides.
Date: 11th Oct 2024 @ 4:41pm
In maths this week, we have been exploring polygons and the perimeter of shapes.
A Polygon is: A two dimentional shape, all the sides are connected with no spaces and all the sides are straight.
Regular shapes are: shapes where all the sides are equal length and all of the internal angles are the same. E. g A square, an equilateral triangle, a regular hexagon.
We used straws of the same length to create regular polygons. Next week we will be using this understanding to work out the perimeter of regular polygons.
