Good morning, I hope you all found some way to enjoy the sunshine yesterday. I sent a lot of time in my garden and I have to admit even though I applied plenty of sun cream, I’m still a little pink! I hope you were all more careful than me.
We’re almost at the end of the week and today is the last kindness based challenge as I have something a little different for tomorrow.
I hope that you have been experiencing some acts of kindness this week as today my challenge is to write a kindness acrostic poem. This is where you use each letter of the word you choose to start a sentence or word.
I’ve attached a file that has a few different kindness words to use for your poem so you can choose one or choose more than one you like! As always if you can’t print then don’t worry, you can write it out on a piece of paper or even type it on a computer like I have.
I have chosen the word caring. Here is my poem.
Cooking for other people
Asking people how they are
Returning peoples phone calls and messages
Interest in what friends and family are up to
Niceness goes a long way!
Going the extra mile for those you love
As always please e-mail your poems to EALhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Thursday Sentence of the day and phonics
Date: 21st May 2020 @ 9:52am
Good Morning everyone!
Sentence of the day
Here are the answers to yesterday’s sentence. If you noticed that the full stops were missing then you were correct! Well done!
Football teams have substitutes.
Tigers wear joggers.
Elephants can walk backwards.
Cheetahs are the fastest animal.
Here is today’s sentence. Put on your detective hat and have a think, what could the problem be with this sentence?
Wensdai was a glorious dae, the sun was shinin and the burds were chirping in the torl towering trees.
Phonics
Today we are going to start our phonics by recapping our tricky words. Have a look at your tricky words and write them all out in your funky writing from yesterday. I’m going to write mine in rainbow writing…
could
For today’s phonics we are going back to our polysyllabic words. Polysyllabic words are words that have more than one syllable. When we are decoding new longer words we use syllables to help us chunk the words and make them more manageable to read.
Challenge one – Read the words below and clap out the syllables.
Challenge two – Read the words and draw a picture on a scrap of paper to match. Make sure each picture has its own piece of paper. Once you have drawn all of the pictures write out the words on separate pieces of paper. Now play a game of pairs and pair the word cards with the picture cards.
Challenge three- there are lots of games on phonicsplay to help you practice reading your polysyllabic words. Here is one of my favourites…

Hope you all have a lovely day, stay safe,

Good morning Year 5!
I hope you enjoyed the sunshine yesterday - a bit chillier today, but stil set to be fine I think! Livvi and Asaph planted their courgette plant out yesterday (which I'm pleased about, it was getting far too big to be in the house!), then I have 6 tomato plants that need planting outside, but haven't managed to buy any tomato bags to grow them in yet. I need a trip to a garden centre but haven't done it yet, it feels a bit strange to be going out in that way I think!
Anyway, back on to today - check this blog for today's learning, and remember to email us so we can celebrate it!

Hi from Miss Wendt!
Good morning everyone! Hope you are all well and managed to get some sunshine yesterday. It was so warm wasn't it? It was actually warmer in Manchester than it was in Portugal where my Mum lives! She couldn't believe how nice our weather was!
Here is today's fluent in five -
Here are the answers!
And here is a little something to help with our Spanish weather words! I have uploaded 5 key phrases for you to practice at home.

Good Morning Year 5! From Miss Brookes
I have to say, that even though I enjoy a bit of rain, I absolutely loved yesterday's weather. I was able to sit in the garden to get all of my work done (Mrs Hughes sets us home learning, a bit like how we set you home learning!)
Today's act of kindness will be to help my Mum when cooking tea tonight (I asked her "what shall my act of kindness be today?" and she said "helping me with dinner for once" so...maybe I need to do that more often!)
Here's todays GVP. Don't hesitate to email if you get a little bit stuck on a question, I sent some of you a showme video yesterday explaining one of the questions, and I'm always happy to do that.
Here are the answers! How did you get on?

Good Morning Reception!
Who would like to take part in a science experiment this morning?
Today we are going to be observing snails – a bit like the one from our story!
First, you need to make a snail home!
You can use any container with air holes as we are only going to be watching the snails for a couple of days, then you can release them back into your gardens!
After you have selected a container, use some soil/natural earth from outside to put in a layer at the base of the container/jar – fully covering the glass or plastic.
Add a layer of natural material at the top of the soil, like moss, compost etc. This traps moisture inside the soil, which creates good conditions for snails!
You could also decorate your snail’s home! Put objects in the container that snails can hide in or climb onto, which will make them more comfortable and more interesting to watch! You might find some of this material in your garden i.e small sticks or branches!
Finally, you need to find snails to put in your container! Look for snails in muddy garden area, old plant pots or other moist places (perfect with the wet weather today!)
Don’t forget – Garden snails are almost always safe to handle, but you must wash your hands before or after touching them!!
You can take care of your snails by, keeping the container moist with a spray bottle whenever the material at the base starts to dry out. You can also lightly spray the snails every day or two! Feed your snails clean food daily! They love fresh fruit and vegetables!
Below I have posted two links to support this activity:
The first link outlines another set of instructions on ‘How to Make a Snailery!’ if you would like to follow this experiment instead.
The second link is ‘My Snail Book!’ I thought it would be a lovely idea to document this process when observing your garden snails! Each page is filled with a fun activity linked to this investigation! See pictures below...
I hope you enjoy this investigation!! I can’t wait to see pictures of your snail friends! J

Good Morning Reception!
Who is ready for some maths learning today?
Let’s begin with Thursday’s fluent-in-five!
This week in our maths blogs, we have been learning about how our numbers can be represented when using ‘tens frames.’ We have also used tens frames to help us with our addition and subtraction skills!
Take a look at the pictures below to see pictures of the tens frames that were created following yesterday’s blog post! Well done to these reception superstars! J I love all of your creative ideas!
In our maths blog today, I have attached some activities linked to our tens frame learning this week! The first activities I have posted are number representation matching tasks 1-5 and 11-20! You first have to trace the number to form it correctly, and then match the correct tens frame representation to the numeral! See an example of one below!
The second task is an ‘Exploring Number Bonds to ten’ activity. Children have to first choose a number sentence and create a corresponding ten-frame using cubes, counters or any other small item! There are three attachments for this activity below, the tens frame template, number sentences and counter cut outs! You can either choose to print these, or make your own!
Have fun! J
HOME LEARNING - please send your photos in
Date: 21st May 2020 @ 7:43am
We only have 2 children's home learning so far this week. Thank you so much to both of you! I'm so excited to make a video of your learning tomorrow but I'm sad I can't see more lovely home learning.
Remember to send photos of you completing your home learning challenges so we share your learning with all of your friends in Nursery.

Good Morning Reception!!
For the past two weeks we have been using the Julia Donaldson story ‘The Snail and the Whale.’ I want to read you the story, click my video at the bottom of the blog. Whilst you are listening to the story think about what your favourite part of the story has been.
Talk to your grown up or someone in your house about your favourite part of the story. Was it the beginning, middle or end? Remember to share your ideas in sentences.
Today I would like you to write and draw about your favourite part of the story. You can use this sheet attached to the blog or just do the work on a piece of paper.
Don’t forget to send in your photos/work to receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Good Morning Reception!!
To start the phonics activity, I would like you to test yourself and see how many sounds and tricky words you know by playing the games below:
Flashcards Speed Trials – click on pick individual graphemes and choose all sounds in Phase 2 and the ones we have learnt in Phase 3 up to ‘or.’
https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/flashcards-speed-trials
Tricky word trucks – click on pick individual words and choose all Phase 2 and 3. Why not have a go at Phase 4 tricky words…
https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/tricky-word-trucks
Today we are going to practise the sound from yesterday ‘or.’ Sing along with the song at the bottom of the blog all about ‘or.’
Can you read these ‘or’ alien words? Get your grown up to time you…
Today’s practise and apply activities are:
Activity 1 – Target game. Print and cut out the words attached to this blog or write them on scraps of paper. Spread the words out in a space inside or outside of your house. Choose a ‘beanbag.’ It could be a pebble, soft toy, or anything small that you will be able to throw safely. Throw your ‘beanbag’ on a word and read it.
Activity 2 – Play 'or' roll and read.
Activity 3 – Make a ‘or’ work poster. Use the words you have learnt and put them into a colourful poster.
Activity 4 – Use four of the ‘or’ words from any of the activities above and write some super sentences.
Don’t forget to send in your photos/work to… receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Good Morning!
I hope today is going to be sunny like yesterday. I saw lots of children playing in their gardens, in their paddling pools on the way home from school. It was lovely to see that families were spending time together and staying safe.
Today we are going to compare the mass of objects and use words like lighter, lightest, lighter than, heavier, heaviest and heavier than to compare how something weighs in relation to another object.
Watch this link from BBC Bitesize to help you understand the learning for today and then complete the activities
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z428wty
At school we often use balance scales to compare the weight of objects and before school closed we got really good at drawing balance scales.to record our thinking and to identify which objects are heavier and which are lighter.
Challenge 1
Complete the heavier or lighter powerpoint on the bottom of the page
Challenge 2
Complete the heavier and lighter challenge at the bottom of the page. Use your yellow book to record your thinking.
Challenge 3
Complete the heavier and lighter cut and stick
Do not worry if you are unable to print the work out. Copy the balance scales and draw the pictures.
Challenge 4
Complete which is the heaviest activity
Thanks

Hello,
Happy Wednesday! It is going to be a lovely sunny day so we need to get the learning completed really quickly so that you can play in the garden with your family and bathe in your paddling pools.
Today we are goung to focus on problem solving with length and height. So hopefully you can use the skills that you have been taught from the previous weeks to help you with this new learning.
The first thing we need to think about is how we use a ruler to measure the height and length of an object.
Remember
The length of an object is how long it is.
The height of an object is how tall it is.
Have a look at this video that shows you how to use a ruler to measure the length of an object.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuBLuIW1U70
Remember you have to put the object at the start of the ruler-marked 0
Challenge 1
Complete the measuring length and height sheets at the bottom of the page. If you cannot print out the sheets, don't worry. You can make your own ruler and copy the questions into the yellow exercise books.
Challenge 2
Use the height chart to record the heights in cm's of your family. Who is the tallest? Who is the shortest?
Challenge 3
Ask an adult if you can use a tape measure. Have a go at measuring the length and the height of the biggest thing you can see. Draw it in your exercise books and write how long and tall it is.
Now have a look at how to use this knowledge to solve problems
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/tags/zjpqqp3/year-1-and-p2-lessons/1
Challenge 4
Find 2 objects in your house. Draw them in your book. Record how long they are. How much longer is the longest object compared to the shortest object?
Challenge 5
Find 2 objects in your house. Draw them in your book. Record how tall they are. How much taller is the tallest object compared to the shortest object?
Thanks

Good Morning Year 2!
I am so happy that the sun has decided to come back! I started to do some gardening yesterday and now I can finish it off in the sunshine :)
Yesterday's answers and Today's challenges are on our padlet:
https://padlet.com/y2homelearning/obn2yxcgbsitjnx5
I have also added a new link from the Manchester City website. They have loads of cool activies and games you can play to keep fit! If you are a city fan, they also have lots of pictures of the players you can colour in too. I won't be colourig any CITY players in that is for sure (Manchester United all the way).
Have a great day!

Good morning,
Wow what a day! The weather forecast suggests it could get as hot as 26 degrees today! I can’t wait to get out there and enjoy it although I’ll definitely be putting on some sun cream!
Today’s activity is linked to kindness again and involves making a little present for either someone else or yourself. Today‘s challenge is to make an origami heart.
To start with you will need a square piece of paper and it will be easier to follow the instructions if it is decorated or coloured on one side.
Here is a YouTube video telling you how to make a square from an A4 piece of paper.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLrKrHgAI40
Then you have a choice of making 2 different hearts, one flat and one 3D. I made both and prefer the flat one and found it a bit easier but it’s up to you which you do.
Here is how to make the flat heart (my first picture) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnV262Egucw
Here is how to make the 3D inflatable heart (my second picture) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CN4oPm9bCWE (then at the end you have to blow it up using the little hole at the bottom)
I can’t wait to see your hearts! Remember to e-mail them to EALhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Story Adventure The House on Haunted Hill Part 11
Date: 20th May 2020 @ 9:42am
Are you ready for today's spooky adventure? We seem to be stuck between the right and the left door! We first entered the right door to find a bed and a table with Werewolf's blood but Maddison didn't want to choose the option to lie down or drink the blood!
Then Maddison chose to go to the room on the left but in this room we only had the option to drink from the tap or leave and go back to the room on the right.
Heer was the first to message and she did not want to drink the water so today we are heading back to the room on the right.
Once in this room you will have to choose whether to investigate the dressing table or lie down...
As you open the door on your right, you realise you are entering the master bedroom. A grand four-poster bed sits in the centre of the room. Surprisingly, the dust in this room is not as bad as everywhere else and it appears remarkably clean. A faint smell of lavender drifts from the bed and you feel relaxed and sleepy.
In one corner of the room, there is a dressing table full of bottles and books. The smell is getting stronger and you feel even more tired, the bed looks so comfortable, maybe a small rest wouldn’t do any harm.
Do you:
Lay down for a rest
Investigate the dressing table
Who will be the first to decide?
Date: 20th May 2020 @ 9:35am
Good morning ! Hope you are able to get out in the sun today as it's set to be a scorcher !
A big round of applause for our flag winners from yesterday who are : Naomi, Zarak, Heer and Ganesa. Great work ! They knew that the flag was Japan, with its capital Tokyo . The other city in Japan with the same letters is Kyoto.
Here's one for today:
( Mrs Glover thought my last question was very tricky, so here's a slightly easier one for you.)
Which country in the UK has this flag and which mythical creature is on the flag? Let us know by emailing : Ealhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk
Good luck !

Good morning year 6. It looks like it is going to be a lovely day today; a perfect day to sit outside and listen to this chapter and answer the questions. This chapter is called 'The Interview' and I must apologise because I missed out a page when reading it. Click on the link below to listen to the chapter then click on the second link to get the missing page.
https://www.showme.com/sh?h=zcSPoRs

Questions
Can you summarise the chapter in 3 sentences?
What do you think will happen the following day after everyone has read the news article?
Wednesday sentence of the day and phonics
Date: 20th May 2020 @ 9:25am
Good Morning everyone!
Sentence of the day
Here are the answers to yesterday’s sentence. If you noticed that the capital letters were missing then you were correct! Well done!
I see a strand of hair on the screen.
On Monday Steve sprinted to school.
The stray dog scratched and scratched his head.
Put on your detective hat and have a look, what is the mistake in today’s sentence?
Football teams have substitutes
Tigers wear joggers_
Elephants can walk backwards_
Cheetahs are the fastest animal_
Phonics
Today we are going to start our phonics by recapping the polysyllabic words from yesterday. Make some number cards with the numbers 1,2,3,4 on and place them in different places in your room. Watch and listen to the syllable song. Once you have clapped, stomped or crunched the syllables run to the number which shows how many syllables that word has.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlBc703kYMg
For example if the word is pondweed I will do two stamps and run to the number 2.
Today’s phonics is all about our tricky words again.
Challenge one – Play a game of fastest finger. How fast can you find the tricky words?
Challenge two – Try and complete the tic-tac-toe grid. How many of the challenges can you tick off.
Challenge three- seen as though it’s a lovely day today it would be a shame to not do any phonics outside. So if you are outside today can you find different materials like twigs and stones and spell out your tricky words in different ways.
Hope you all have a lovely day, stay safe and enjoy the sunshine!

Good Morning Reception!
Happy Wednesday – we are half-way through the week! J
Let’s begin our maths learning with a fluent-in-five!
This week in our maths blogs, we have been learning about how our numbers can be represented by using ‘tens frames.’ We can also use tens frames to help us with our addition and subtraction skills!
This morning I have posted a catchy ‘Tens Frame’ song at the bottom of this blog! Not only is it a great song, but it also tells us about a ‘counting on’ activity to play when using tens frames!
Today I have adapted this activity for you to take part in at home…we are going to be making our own tens frame! You could use different resources to make this, for example egg boxes, paper, lollipop sticks. To fill your tens frame, you could make your own counters if you do not have any at home or you could use any small objects instead! Your choice! Take a look at the different tens frames below…
The Activity:
Once you have made your tens frame, ask an adult at home to think of a number for you to count items into the tens frame. E.g If your adult says ‘3’, you have to put 3 items into your tens frame. Don’t forget the number you are beginning with!!
Then, you must cover your eyes or turn away!!
Your adult is going to either add or take away items from the tens frame and give you a clue to help you work out how many items you have now– without peeping!! E.g Child to cover eyes, adult to say… ‘I have added one more item, how many items are in the tens frame now?’
See if you can work it out without looking! Once you’ve had a go – uncover your eyes and see if you were correct! Then you can have a turn at testing your adult at home!! How fun! J
I’ve also added the link to the interactive tens frame if you would like some extra tens frame learning! J https://www.nctm.org/Classroom-Resources/Illuminations/Interactives/Ten-Frame/
I can’t wait to see pictures of your own tens frames! Enjoy!

Good morning Year 5!
I've been looking forward to today all week because I knew the forecast is lovely warm sunshine for the whole day! I think Livvi, Asaph and I will just do a couple of homeschool activities this morning, then I'll get the paddling pool out for them! Then a friend of ours dropped round a lovely bag of treats for us yesterday so that we could have an afternoon tea today - isn't that so kind! What could you do that is kind today?
Remember to email us at Y5homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk to show us your learning and what you're getting up to, we love hearing from you!
--
Mrs Hodges here!
Two activities from me today, firstly the Sentence of the Day:
https://www.showme.com/sh?h=hsW4UVc
Then I'd like you to have a look at the file I've attached - "The Discovery". A start to a story has been given to you - I'd like you to continue that story! The questions in the "Question Time" box will get you thinking about what might happen next, and as you "Just Write" (remember those!), I'd like you to be thinking about showing not telling the reader how your characters are feeling and what is happening. So you need to think carefully about your vocabulary choices and mixing DAD to help you do this.
We would love to be your reader for this piece of writing, so make sure you email us a photo!
Good afternoon Year 5!
Firstly, our afternoon tea was delicious, it felt like such a treat as I was writing a few reports!
How did you get on with today's sentence? Click the link below to see my corrected sentence!
https://www.showme.com/sh?h=B9PI0Dw

Miss Wendt here!
Mrs Hodges, I think a paddling pool sounds like a wonderful idea! I'm going to finish writing 5HW's reports in the garden later; I do love being outside but I have to remember to take all my hayfever medication. Katy's act of kindness today was to put all my tablets and eye drops out on the kitchen table to remind me, alongside a pot of coffee!
Fluent in five for today!
And here are the answers!
--
Good Morning from Miss Brookes!
Oh Mrs Hodges, afternoon tea is one of my favourite things! There's a place in Chortlon that do a chocolate afternoon tea - instead of jam you get warm salted caramel to put on your scones. It's honestly one of my favourite tastes - it's so yummy!
My act of kindness today is to help my Dad with some DIY - he's adding a shelf to our greenhouse.
Here is today's GVP:
Here are the answers:
Don't forget to email me a picture of your sundial - I'm excited to see how they turned out!

Good Morning Reception!!
I can’t believe it’s the middle of the week already!! Where is this week going...? Let’s start our phonics activity with a phonics workout. Click on the video at the bottom of this blog.
Today we are going to learn a new sound called ‘or.’ Watch the show me video to learn all about this sound.
https://www.showme.com/sh?h=ExVQm00
Can you read these ‘or’ words? Get your grown up to time you…
Today’s practise and apply activities are:
Activity 1 – Can you add the sound buttons on the words and read them? If you have forgotten how to add sound buttons watch the show me video again.
Activity 2 – Find the ‘or’ words in the wordsearch.
Activity 3 – Choose the correct ‘or’ word for each sentence.
Activity 4 – Read the ‘or’ words on the balloons and pop them.

Good Morning Reception!!
In our story ‘The Snail and the Whale’ they were two main characters: the snail and the whale. Today we will be learning about the kinds of animals snails and slugs are.
First, look at this picture of a snail and slug. What do you think you already know…? What can you see? Where do you think they live? What do you think they eat?
Today I would like you to read the facts about snails and slugs with a grown up. What have you learnt about these minibeasts…?
Write three facts that you have learnt on the sheet attached to the blog or on a piece of paper.
Don’t forget to send in your photos/work to receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk
Story Adventure The House on Haunted Hill Part 10
Date: 19th May 2020 @ 3:09pm
Hi everyone! Well guess who answered first? Yes Maddison. Well done to Maddison for keeping up with our spooky story!
She has decided to leave the room and try the left door. Sounds good to me- I didn't fancy the idea of drinking the Werewolf's blood! Yuck!
Well here goes; off to the left now...
You choose the door on the left and walk into a bathroom. The stench of mould and decay is overpowering and you feel sick almost instantly. Your head starts pounding and you feel nauseous with the pain. You glance towards the sink and see a steady stream of cool, clean water pouring from the tap.
That may just ease the throbbing pain in your head.
Do you:
Drink some water
Stagger from the bathroom and open the right door?
What should we do? The water does sound very refreshing though.

Good morning,
Wow yesterday's flag challenge was difficult! In fact I'm not even sure on one of the answers so keep an eye on the blog and I'll add it on later!
Well done to Maddison, Heer and Ganesa who knew that it was the Egyptian flag! Everyone had slightly different ideas on who lived there 5000 years ago and I'm not 100% sure what answer Mrs Harriott had in mind so I'll update this as soon as I know!
Update - Mrs Harriott was thinking of the Anicent Egyptians who lived there 5000 years ago, I think some of us were trying to make it too complicated! :-D
Today's quiz
What flag is this? What is the capital of the country? Which other city in this country uses excatly the same letters as the capital city? (also known as an anagram)
As always let us know what you think the answer is on EALhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk
