This week, we have begun our new CC geography unit about California. As part of this unit, we will learn lots about our planet. This week we discovered that there are four main layers to the Earth. The crust, which is the layer we live on, is the thinnest layer, then we have the mantle, then the outer core and finally the inner core. The inner core is around 5000-6000 degrees celsius hot.
As part of our CC learning, we have begun to read a new core text called I survived the San Francisco earthquake 1906 which contains fictional characters, but it is based around real events. This week have written similes and methaphors as well as using a range of sentence starters.
In in our science lesson, we have begun to learn about the digestive system, which is how food travel in, around and out of the body.
Next week we will be visiting a Hindu Temple on Thursday. Please return your letter if you have not brought it yet.
Our assembly today was presented by two firefighters who told us all about their work and how we can keep safe around bonfires.
Homework has been sent home today, and spellings/timestables will be tested next Friday.

Yesterday we found some paw prints on our Literacy book stand. We thought it was odd because there wasn't a book! We followed the paw prints to a basket that was left in the shared area. There was a cat, a pair of shoes, a guitar and a pair of cool sunglasses. Who sent them? It was a mystery until today, when we found a brand new book. We learned all about Pete the Cat and how much he loved his white shoes. It was a fun story, he kept stepping in things and it changed the colour of his shoes. Do you know how he made them white again?
Here's a link to the story if you want to find out

Supertato needed to split up 5 Evil Peas because they were causing so much trouble! We explored how to split 10 into two parts using a part whole model. We used Playdoh peas on part whole models, Evil pea characters, bean bags in part whole models outside and different types of maths counters. We found many ways to split the Evil Peas!

What a busy first half term we have had in 1AI!!!
We are very settled into the routines and timetable of Year 1 and have really enjoyed answering our topic question - What makes us Incredible? We launched this topic with a superhero day and finsihed it by creating a padlet page describing how we have changed over time. We recorded our thoughts and sent the padlet page to Miss Higgins who is the histiry lead in school. She was very impressed with our historical knowledge of changes in our lifetime!
Next half term will be another busy one with the lead up to all things Chrismassey!! Ho, Ho, Ho!!!!
Attached is the parent overview for Autumn 2 so you can have a look at what we will be doing in our next topic question. Don't forget the first Wednesday after the half term holidays we have invited parents/grown ups from home to join in with our next topic launch. 1AI grown ups are invited on Wednesday 1st November at 2pm. Looking forward to seeing you there!

This week, we invited parents and carers into school to make our maya tortillas! We first wrote our instructions using imperative verbs, fronted adverbials, numbers for listing and bullet points.
We followed these instructions carefully and had to explain to the parents/carers who visited how to make a Maya tortilla. The recipes have also been sent home in a Maya-inspired cook book. We're sure that over the half term, lots of parents will want to make the Maya tortillas at home!
Holiday homework is being sent home today, and the autumn 2 overview for parents.
Have a great break!

This half term we have been learning all about special celebrations 🎉
The children have been learning about big world celebrations as well as celebrations that we celebrate just with our friends and friends at home.
This week the children have been preparing to celebrate Rosie, our home corner baby's, birthday. They have been counting down the days on our calendar, making party hats, party menus and shopping lists and decorating our classroom.
Today we finally ended the countdown and celebrated Rosies birthday. We sang, danced, played games and had a great time.

In science this half term we have been learning about body parts and what our senses are. We learnt about the job of each sense and which body part it was associated with. We used this song to help us:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzqx39K2omc
We carried out a Smell Pot investigation where we predicted what was in each pot using our sense of smell. We smelt each pot and then discussed what it might be and whether we liked each smell or not. We recorded our findings in a table and discovered what each smell actually was. We predicted correctly for some of the smells!

Hello,
I cannot believe how hard all the children have worked this week. They have made Mrs Cooper and I very proud!
In English, we have been learning about writing recounts and to help us write a personal recount we went on a walk around Clayton. The children used their big googly eyes to find human and physical features and local landmarks. They used their observation skills to sketch what they could see too !
They found; The National Bike centre, Asda, the canal, Philips Park, Flip out, two bridges, Decathlon, trees, bushes, cars, buses, roads, pavements and lots more!!!!!!!!!!!! We were so lucky with the weather too. It was a warm sunny day and the leaves were falling from the trees. We even got to play on a pretend tractor.
As part of mental health week. The children rehearsed and then performed It's a beautiful day. They also created some mental health mindfulness colourings that we are going to join together to create a mural for the wall outside the year 2 classrooms. Watch the video below to see our amazing Ravy children in action.
Rebaz, the freestyle footballer also came into school to work with the children. They learnt how to perform some football tricks and got to watch him demonstrate his skills! The children absolutely loved having him in school. Hopefully we will get to see him next year too
Photographs to be added!
Thanks
Miss Wolfenden and Mrs Cooper

One Day at Ravensbury Community Primary, there was something strange going on! In Year 1HB there were many crimes committed! Oh No! There's a Pea on the loose!
Year 1 have been reading the story Supertato and have been describing the character of the Evil Pea. We have been using adjectives to describe his naughty behaviours such as sneaky, cheeky, unkind and devilish! Take a look at the terrible crimes he committed in Year 1!

We have such a busy week this week in 6JT!
On Tuesday, we had a workshop about the Windrush. We found out some facts about the HMT Windrush Empire and acted out some events.
On Wednesday we had an exciting day as Rabaz, the freestyle footballer, came back into school to do a showcase assembly and a skills workshop after.
All week year 6 have been doing assessments in maths, reading and Grammer, today we looked at numbers up to 1, 000, 000 and were able to explore place value using a human numberline.
Also during our indoor PE slot we tried to beat the time from last year doing the 'Wall Sit Challenge. They all tried really hard and we stretched after to help the muscles recover.

Apologies for the delay in getting these photos up. Its taken me a while to establish permission.
We had a great trip to Quarry Bank Mill in September. We went earlier than we would normally go but it has actually made a huge difference to the children's understanding of the Victorians. This has been so useful for their reading and writing around the factories and Oliver Twist.
They were able to experience the lives of an apprentice at the factory - where they slept, what they ate and where they learned. They also saw the process of how cotton was made on the huge (and noisy) looms and then finished the day with a dressing up session!

Its nearly the half term holidays!
We have had such a busy week full of different activities - a Windrush workshop as part of black history week, a freestyle football session with Rebaz and our first art session of year 5. It was so lovely to see so many children getting stuck in and trying out new skills.
In writing, we have been planning our factory inspector reports. The class seem to really enjoy using their 'posh' voices in formal tone and they have worked hard to learn some higher level vocabulary such as observe instead of watch and gather instead of get.
In reading, we have been enjoying non-fiction texts about victorian factories to inform our writing. We even had one that was all about Quarry Bank Mill!
In maths, we have been applying our learning of tenths and hundredths to money. We just need to work on securing our understanding of change by counting forwards on a number line.
Golden time this week was creative week. The class chose some colouring sheets to complete or to make a card to take home. We had a great time but I'm sure they're looking foward to popcorn and film golden time next week!
Have a great weekend!

This week Rebaz came back into school to visit the children. We watch him perform some fantastic tricks in assembly and got the chance to ask him questions. Then we got a chance to have a workshop with Rebaz and practise some tricks ourselves. We learnt that every trick we tried requires lots of practise.

This week we have been learning lots of new words to describe how animals move in the story 'Monkey and Me'. Verbs are words which describe what a character is doing.
Here are the words we know now:
flap waddle sway swing jump
Can you guess which animals move in this way by looking at these photos?
