We will remember them
Date: 8th Nov 2024 @ 6:54pm
Today in Nursery our learning centred around Remembrance. We watched a video that helps younger children understand this important time of year.
Here it is for you to look at again over the weekend, with your children at home - Poppies by the BBC
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
We talked about how the animals felt at different points in the animation and lots of the children showed a good understanding of the changing emotions. One child stated, "It's the soldier's light' at the point in which the poppies began to grow again after war. This was a beautful moment of insight to share with his class.
Everybody used either their scissor skills to snip or their talking fingers to tear grass for the poppies to grow in. Later on the children chose if they wanted to create a poppy. They followed Steps 2 Success to make tissue paper or painted poppies. Here is the picture from the end of the animation that inspired us and then our very own field of Remembrance Day Poppies. We hope you love it as much as we do.
