We have been busy the last few weeks reading and researching all about the Second World War. It has been a really interesting topic and we have been busy collecting all our ideas down in teams ready to write our own information texts later this week.

Here's a reminder of what is happening on Friday. We're so excited to welcome our parents and carers in to share our learning and some of the fun activities we like.
Geography Fieldwork and Provision areas in Year 1!

Last Monday we carried out some fieldwork for our geography learning. We made some binoculars to go on a local area walk around the school playground using a map to help us. We discussed the starting point and which route we will be taking to observe and look at all the things in our local area. Then back in class we labelled all the things we saw on a school map.
In Year 1 we have provision areas where we practice our skills using equipment, games and activities to help us. Last week we loved using the provision areas do help us with our reading, writing, phonics and maths skills. Some of our favourite areas have been writing/phonic area where we love creating books using paper and treasury tags! We also enjoy our reading area and love to look at the books for pleasure. We also enjoy using the funky fingers area to support our hand strength by doing lots of activities linked to the story or topic we are doing.
It's been another busy week in 1AI!!!

Year 3 have been very busy these last couple of weeks.
In maths, we have been exploring addition and subtraction. Can you remember the meaning of all of our new vocabulary? Addend, minuend, subtratend, equation, sum and difference? It was challenging to begin with, but we alll worked incredibly hard and continued to persevere until we felt confident.
In english, we have been reading the Stone Age boy. We have practised our inference skills, and next week will write a diary as if we have landed in the Stone Age - just like the boy did in the story.
In history, we explored what it would be like to be living in the Stone Age. We learnt what a hunter-gatherer was, and role-played being a hunter, gatherer and farmer in the playground.
We have also begun our gymnastics journey in PE, and learnt how to do a shoulder stand. We even learnt a trick to do with a beanbag and a hula hoop!

We have had a wonderful first few weeks in Reception!
All of the children have settled into their new classes so well. They have been working extremely hard as we settle into our new routines.
Thank you so much for all of the support from parents bringing in book bags each day and helping with phonics homework each evening. Remember to ask the grown-ups during morning jobs if you have any questions about things you can do to help at home.
Next week we are going to be starting a brand new story! The story is call 'Incredible You!' Why not have a sneak peak below?

In maths this week we have been learning about more than and less than. We have been exploring different objects by comparing quaitities. We have also been learning about the <, > and = symbols and using them to write number equations to compare numbers.

Hello,
We cannot believe how fast the school weeks are going. it is lovely to see the children becoming more and more confident as the days go by. This week there has been a real focus on the children using the classroom provision to support their independent learning.
In maths, the children have used concrete objects to make groups of 10. They were asked to find as many different ways of representing 10 and they were encouraged to work as part of The Ant Team. it was lovely to see them talking to each other and helping each other with their learning. Look at their hard work.

1AI participating in our Inclusive Sport's Day

Last Wednesday we had a fantastic morning participating in our first Inclusive Sport's Day at Ravensbury. The different zones had some alternative activities that children participated in. The activities included trampolining, bowling, wheelchair racing, seated volleyball, blind-folded ball throw and standing or seated soft axe throwing.
It was an amazing experience and the children got stuck into all the activities with great enthusiasm!
LAUNCH - What is in our local area?

This week 1HB launched our new topic 'What is in our local area?' We went to explore the boundaries of our school from the outskirts of our playground. We enjoyed looking at the houses and sharing where we live with our friends! We were also excited to talk about our experiences of visiting the local chip shop and of course the sweet shop! We learned about how Clayton is the town where we live and that Clayton is a town in the city of Manchester. Next week we will exploring maps of our local area as well as using them to plan and follow routes.

We have had an excellent week in 2AH!
The children are settling into their new classroom now and have been showing lots of interest towards what we have been learning in class.
In English, we have been discussing adjectives and conjunctions as we prepare to write our character descriptions for Whiffy Wilson next week. The pupils have been great at discussing adjectives and applying these to their writing.
We have also been discussing more about different continents in our Geography topic 'What would we see if we travelled from Pole to Pole?'. The children enjoyed looking on Google Earth where we compared the size of different continents and looked at images to see how these looked different to where we live. If you would like to explore with your child just click the link https://earth.google.com .
In RE our current enquiry question is 'Who is a Muslim and what do they believe?'. This week we have discussed the Prophet Muhammad and how the Islamic faith teaches Muslims to care for all creatures big and small. We talked about how we can protect small creatures and enjoyed making a 'bug hotel' which we will be keeping an eye on outside our classroom.
On Wednesday, the children took part in the schools inclusive sports day where they all had a lot of fun. I am so impressed with the feedback from other teachers in the school about how the children shown their team work and determination.

It has been brilliant getting to know all the children at our school who speak another language at home - there are so many different languages in our school! I have counted more than 20 so far.
I have (nearly) learnt all the names (give me until half term!) and many things that the children like and don't like. They definitely like playing games to help with their learning!
Year 6 have been learning about past tense verbs (regular and irregular, was/were, spelling rules) to be able to write a diary from a character's point of view.
Year 5 have been working on which speech verbs to choose when writing about Oliver Twist.
Year 3 and 4 have been working on understand maths words.
Year 2 have been asking questions correctly, giving opinions and taking turns.
It has been a busy week in Year 2!

Hello,
Well all we can say is that it has been a busy week in year 2 this week. The children have settled in well and are becoming more and more confident at working independently, which is lovely to see. The children have enjoyed joining in with Mrs's Hughes Celebration assembly this week and were particularly excited when they worked with Miss Kent during singing Assembly. Our children are so talented at singing and performing and it is lovely to see they come alive when they sing and dance.
This week was the launch to our new Geography topic ' What will we see when we travel from Pole to Pole' The children made passports, created suitcase lists and boarding passes which they really enjoyed. Some of the children would make great travel agents! This week they will be using globes, maps and Atlases to locate the Continents and Oceans of the world. If would like to help them further have a look at the knowledge organiser below to see the skills, knowledge and new vocabulary that they will be learning.

The Year Two Team

This week, we had an Archaeologist visit Year 3! Dr Ian taught us about the three periods of the Stone Age. We were able to explore real artefacts, make string, weave, make flour, create bracelets and even attempted making pottery with clay. Year 3 had an amazing day, and we can't wait to learn even more about the Stone Age this half-term.

What was the cause of the second world war?
We listened to Neville Chamberlain's (the Prime Minister in 1939) declaration of war and thought about how we would feel if we heard that today. We decided that it felt very unnerving and made us all worried about what the future could hold. We imagined ourselves as children in 1939, and thought about the impact on our lives.

This week we have been getting stuck into our timetable. We have trying to understand what we do each day in the morning and afternoon.
We have started our phonics, guided reading and writing sessions with great confidence. In geography we learnt about what our new topic was called 'What can be found in our local area?' We discussed what we already knew about the local area around our school and went on a simple fieldwork where we walked around the playground looking at all the things we could see out and around Ravensbury School.
In maths we have started to think about using the correct language when describing objects such as more, less, bigger, smaller, long, short, tall and shorter. On Friday's we will be doing a basic maths skills session and today we focussed on counting and number formation by playing games such as bingo, snakes and ladders and using resources such as numicon, dice and counters.
In PE we started to work with our new city coach called Amy. This week we played games to get to know each other using the space and listening to instructions. On Thursday we started our indoor PE session with gymnastics. We discussed the expectations in gymnastics and travelled around the space safely. We also learnt three shapes that we can do with our bodies - star, pike and tuck.
These are just some of things we have done!
It's been an amazing start to in Year 1!!!
Step back in time: Victorian launch

This week, we travelled back to the Victorian era in preparation for our Quarry Bank Mill trip on Monday! We explored Victorian toys, like spinning tops and wooden dolls, and tried our hand at writing with slate and chalk just like children back then. Victorian fashion fascinated us, with boys in waistcoats and girls in long dresses and bonnets. We also learned about how wool and cotton were processed, giving us a glimpse of what life was like working in the mills. We're excited to see it all come to life during our trip next week!
Please can you make sure your child is reading every night. Homework will be sent out today and is due by Friday 20th September.

Welcome to our class blog page for 2024-25!!
The children have settled in really well in their Year 1 class and are raring to get on with their learning. The first week we did lots of learning about some new procedures around school and we learnt about the continuous provision expectations in our class.
We played a class scavenger hunt where we located where things/areas were in our class. We learnt about our learning powers and shared which one we will be using this year. We also learnt about what our rights were and listened to the story 'Every Child a Song.'
On Thursday morning we welcomed our grown ups into school to look at our class, learn about Year 1 expectations and have a play with some of the activities in our class.
A very positive start to Year 1!!

Welcome to Year 3!
What a fantastic start to year 3 that we have had. We began the week, by beginning our journey to become a rights respecting school, by exploring the book 'Every Child a Song.' Using the story as inspiration, we then created acrostic poems with our names, that we can't wait to display in our shared areas. We also learned about the ABCDE of rights, and the difference between 'needs' and 'wants.' After we'd learned about children's rights, we created Class Charters to ensure that our classrooms would be respectful, safe and responsible learning environments - see them below.
We also completed maths learning, where we were able to use concrete resources to order, compare and represent two and three digit numbers.
We can't wait to see what next week will bring!
Rememeber: P.E days are Tuesday and Wednesday.

We've spent the past three days welcoming new children into Nursery with 3 days of Stay and Play sessions. All of the children have enjoyed playing and listening to stories in their new classes, with their adults. We'll post lots of phtos of our learning soon but for now, here's a reminder of the times of the sessions next week.
The children will come in to class by themselves next week for the morning OR afternoon session. Please remember to bring a bag with a spare change of clothes in it to leave at school. We're so excited to see you all again on Monday!
We are a rights respecting school!

What a busy first week it has been for year 6 this week. We've launched the use of recognition boards in class which have a different focus each day. We have focus on transitions and being in the different focus areas this week. In addition, we have joined Ravensbury's journey to be a rights respecting school. We have discussed what rights that we have as children and how we can resepct our rights. As part of our learning about children's rights, we each created a haiku poem based on a text called 'Every Child a Song'. Please have a look at the attached pictures.
A reminder that PE days are Monday and Friday.

This morning Nursery shared their learning with their grown-ups. Parents were invited into class to review their child's Guided Draw books and Connected-Curriculum books and look at what their child has learned and achieved this year. The children also sang the song 'Try Everything' to their audience and danced to the rhythm.
When I asked the children why their grown-ups came to school they said:
"To watch our performance" "They came to look at our red books" "They looked at our Guided-Draw pictures"
