British Science Week

Date: 14th Mar 2025 @ 11:05am

This week in school we have been celebrating British Science Week. This year's theme was all about change and adapt. On Wednesday we had a visitor called Katje who came from Science Boffins and started the day with an amazing assembly. She showed us some investigations and explained the science behind them. We saw water that changed into foam, exploding liquids and liquids that turned into a solid! It was lots of fun!

Back in the classroom we discussed proeprties of materials and went on a hunt. Then we thought about how some materials can change into a solid and conducted a freezing liquids experiment. We predicted which liquids would freeze and then put them in the freezer for one day. Then we looked at each container to find out the results!

British Science Week - Change and Adaptation!

Date: 13th Mar 2025 @ 12:02pm

Hello

This week we have celebrated British Science Week. On Wednesday, we spent the day celebrating Science and all of the amazing things that we have been learning.

We started the morning with a Science Boffins assembly where we learned all about hydrogels that absorb water and make it 'disappear' as well as experiments with household items such as washing up liquid.

In class, we have been learning all about living things and their habitats. We finished our morning by completing our habitat investigations, investigating the rainforest habitat and the animals that live there. The children chose different rainforest animals and drew these in their books, labelling the different features and how these help the animals to survive.

In the afternoon, we then made all of our different habitats. We used sand to create the Sahara desert, water to create the ocean, broccoli to make trees for our rainforest and even made our own snow for the Artic. The children then used different materials and tools such as play-doh and lego to make the different animals and features of the different habitats. The children were all so absorbed in the activites and really used their learning to discuss and create the habitats. Look at the photos below of our Ocean, Artic, Rainforest and Desert habitats.

World Book Day!

Date: 10th Mar 2025 @ 7:49pm

On Friday we celebrated World Book Day with our theme of 'Get Comfy and Read.' We had a wonderful day of activities starting with some of our grown ups joining us to read with each other in the hall. It was a lovely time for us to share our favourite books with others. We made wooden spoon puppets of our favourite book characters and did a puppet show. We also had an amazing time reading to the reception children. It was a fantastic day and we all looked great!

World Book Day!

Date: 9th Mar 2025 @ 8:45pm

On Friday we celebrated World Book Day with our theme of 'Get Comfy to Read.' We had a wonderful day of activities planned which started with our grown ups from home joining us for a read/share a book session. Back in class we used our whole school chosen picture book called 'Flotsom' to predict what the story might be about, we learnt the meaning of the word flotsom and created some fabulous under the sea artwork using oil pastels and collage materials. They looked fantastic!

History turning into a Games Afternoon!

Date: 9th Mar 2025 @ 8:40pm

Last Wednesday we had a Games Afternoon in our History lesson. We brought in toys and games from home and shared them with our friends. We talked about how they were different to toys in the past and what we enjoyed the most about the toys that we played.

It was great fun sharing and working together to play a game or with a toy!

TOYS! TOYS! TOYS!

Date: 9th Mar 2025 @ 6:40pm

We had lots of fun doing our toys topic this week. We brought in our own toys and shared them with our friends! There were so many variety of toys such as teddies, dolls, action figures and remote control cars! We loved showing them off and talking to the class about why we like them. We also explored the materals that atre used to make our modern toys and of course the most popular material was plastic.

Y3 visits Nursery for World Book Day

Date: 7th Mar 2025 @ 4:28pm

During our world book day celebrations, year 3 visited Nursery to share some stories.

The year 3 children created their own picture books, which they brought with them to Nursery. They then showed these to the children, and talked through the story. The children loved hearing all of the different stories shared with them.

World Book Day!

Date: 7th Mar 2025 @ 4:25pm

Today has been very exciting, because we have been celebrating World Book Day!

Year 3 have been extremely busy.

We read our focus text 'Flotsam - David Wisener' which is a story with no words. Inspired by this, we decided to create our own picture books. Some children used inspiration from writing they had written earlier in the year, and others created entirely new stories.

We then used wooden spoons to make puppet characters. Some of these were based off Flotsam (such as fish or sea creatures) and others were based off our World Book Day costumes. These are going to be in our reading corners and on display in our shared areas.

Throughout the day, we were also able to share stories with a range of people. We shared stories in the hall with our grown ups, we visited Nursery to share our picture books, and Mrs Bennett (Cruella De Vil) and Miss Cope (the Cat in the Hat) visited our class to read their stories.

It was an exciting (though tiring!) day. We can't wait to do it all over again next year.

World book day! Get comfy and read!

Date: 7th Mar 2025 @ 4:21pm

Today we spent time with our grown ups in an extended Morning Job reading some of our favourite stories.

We wore comfy clothes or came dressed up as our favourite book characters.

We decorated a wooden spoon of our favourite character from some of our key text we have done across the year! They now live in our reading area!

We also had a visit from year 3 and shared stories with them.

World Book Day!

Date: 7th Mar 2025 @ 4:03pm

Year 5 had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day! Some amazing costumes, teddies and comfy clothes and it was nice for everyone to be able to take the time to enjoy a good book. We had a book share with children from Year 1, explored Flotsum and created our own idea of what the story might be with partners and decorated spoons with our favourite characters. It was lovely to spend the last part of the day sharing books with our grown ups in the hall too.

Happy World Book Day!

Date: 7th Mar 2025 @ 4:01pm

5AK have had a lovely day celebrating World Book Day! Have a look at the attached pictures.

World Book Day

Date: 7th Mar 2025 @ 2:06pm

Happy World Book Day!

Today has been an amazing day in 2AH, celebrating 'World Book Day' by getting comfy and taking part in lots of reading activities. During the morning, we went into the hall to share some of our favourite class stories with our adults and teachers. The children were so excited and happy.

After this, we came back to class and started our story spoons. In 2AH we love Julia Donaldson stories so you will be able to see a theme.

We also looked through the book 'Flotsam'. The book has no writing so it was really lovely to see the children using their comprehension skills to look at the images and discuss what is happening. As the book shows us so much of our beautiful sea life and oceans, we decided to make 'Save our Oceans' posters.

Finally, the children enjoyed spending some time with their book buddies in Year 6. The pupils from Year 6 sat with the children to read and discuss different stories.

It is so wonderful that the children in 2AH have such a pleasure for reading and talking about the different books that they have read. Remember that the children's home reading and shared reading books are changed each Friday so please take some time to read with your child each day after school.

Our royal crowns

We also made our 'Queen Victoria' crowns in art this week, all ready for more of our history learning. The children used the skills they practiced last week and also used lots of different materials to design. Take a look at their amazing creations!

Andalusia launch!

Date: 28th Feb 2025 @ 6:05pm

This week we had our launch lesson for our exciting geography topic this term - Andalusia! The children had a look at some videos of this beautiful area in Spain and we discussed all the things Andalusia is known for including bull fighting. The children then got to follow along with some beginner flamenco videos and test out their dancing skills - with costume props of course! They enjoyed it so much that they asked to practice some more once they had their coats ready for home time.

Launching Toys in the Past!

Date: 28th Feb 2025 @ 4:22pm

Welcome Back to spring 2 term in 1AI!

What a busy start to the term we have had! On Wednesday we had a visitor called Alison who came into school. She set up a Toy Museum in the hall and took us around four rooms. We saw some teddy bears, moving toys, dolls and an imagination room. We learnt lots of facts about each type of toy and used some drama to tell stories linked to the toys. It was lots of fun!

What do plants need to grow?

Date: 28th Feb 2025 @ 2:34pm

This half-term, year 3 are learning all about plants in Science.

To begin our topic, we asked the question 'what do plants need to grow?'

We completed some research that showed us they needed air, water, space, light and soil...but we wanted to test if this was true or not.

We have now set up an experiment, where we have planted 6 different basil seeds. In each plant pot, we have removed one of the different things that plants need. We have also planted one seed that has air, water, space, light and soil so that we can compare.

We will water them (apart from the one where water is removed!) each day, and see if the basil plant grows or not.

Our first week back!

Date: 27th Feb 2025 @ 2:52pm

What a wonderful first week back!

Maths

This week in Maths we have started our shapes unit. The children have started to recognise, name and describe different polygon shapes. We went on a 'polygon hunt' around our classroom and outdoor area where the children worked together to take photos and describe the different real life polygons. Take a look at some of our photos below:

History

In history this week, we launched our new unit 'What did Queen Victoria do for us?' We started our launch with our art objective to make our own paper crowns. This week, the children spent time designing their own crowns and practiced their own paper scissor skills such as zigzags, curling and fringing.

English

With our Queen Victoria launch in history, we have started to look at non-chronological reports all about Queen Victoria's life in English. This week, the children identified the features of non-chronological reports and worked together to find these in different reports such as information booklets. On Thursday, we had our 'ideas party', the children worked with their table buddies to write the different question sub-headings that they could use in their reports.

PE

We had an amazing PE session with Coach Amy on Tuesday. This half term, the children are working on their throwing and catching skills. This week, the children used tennis balls to practice how we can throw up and catch a ball, cupping our hands and holding the ball close to our hands to protect it.

The Toy Museum Visitor!

Date: 27th Feb 2025 @ 11:09am

This week we have launched our new topic -Would you rather play with toys from the past or toys from the present?' We are already very excited about this topic because we LOVE to talk, play and learn about TOYS!

On Wednesday, we had a very exciting morning because a visitor came and shown us her Toy Museum! We saw lots of intersting toys form the past and the present. The visitor told us many interesting facts about how the toys had changed over time and what materials they were made from. We also had lots of fun using our imagination to become toys ourselves and even invent toys of our own!

In our writing lesson, we will be writing a recount about what happened when we went to visit the Toy Museum so that we can tell our parents all about it!

We are absolutely, amazing at generating adjectives!

Date: 24th Feb 2025 @ 12:55am

Hello,

In English, we have been generating adjectives to describe a setting. We have been learning about Wuhan in China and have been using adjectives to describe what we would see, smell and hear. We used the adjectives to write descriptive sentences. Our ideas were absolutely, amazing!

IMG_2028.JPG  IMG_2029.JPG  IMG_2031.JPG

We put all our ideas onto our Working wall and used them to help us write descriptive sentences.

Can you count in steps of 2!

Date: 24th Feb 2025 @ 12:39am

Hello,

The children have been working hard to remember their 2 times table. They have counted in steps of 2 using fun songs to help them recall the number facts. They have used the maths area in the classroom to help them group objects into 2's. They have enjoyed exploring the patterns that they can see and use this to sove multiplication equations.
