Does the rain fall the same amount around our school?
Date: 25th Jan 2025 @ 7:53am
Our new connected curriculum is 'Why is the weather so wonderful?'. We have been learning about how meterologists study the weather patterns and use diffferent types of equipment such as rain gauges, wind socks and weather vanes.
As geographers, we wanted to role play being meterologists and asked the question does the rain fall the same amount around our school? First, we studied a map of our school and predicted where and if the rain would fall more in one place or another. Then we have made our own rain gauges using plastic bottles and labelled them bottles 1,2 and 3. We then plotted on our school map where they should be placed to collect the rain water. Afterwards we used our school maps to find the places to place our rain gauges which was lots of fun. Each week we will go and retrieve our rain gauges and measure the arount of rain fall. Most of us predicted that the rain will fall the most in Stuart's garden because the garden needs rainwater to grow the plants.
Log on next week to see if we were correct!

Last week, in maths we were learning to recognise and name 3D shapes. We explored the classroom to find different 3D shapes and the sorted them into groups. We problem solved the differences between a cube and cuboid as they are similar. We found that the most popular shape was a cupoid and the least popular shape was a triangular prisim.
Have a look at home and see which 3D shapes you can find!
In the style of Andy Goldsworthy...
Date: 24th Jan 2025 @ 5:04pm
Year 6 began their new art topic this half term, looking at the work of Andy Goldsworthy.
Andy Goldsworthy is a British sculptor who uses natural resources to create works of art. His work is described as ephemeral, which means it's only meant to last for a short time.

Y6 started by collecting their natural resources from the school playground, putting them into patterns and sketching what they could see. Then, they tested different methods of leaf printing, using paint, pastel, chalk and felt tip. This will build up to creating a piece of ephemeral art outside in the garden next week. Hopefully, it won't be windy!

Will it float? Or will it sink?
Date: 24th Jan 2025 @ 2:56pm
This week in Reception we had a special challenge! We had to help Noi and his Dad to make a brand new boat to help them to get home...
We experimented with different materials in our classroom to try and find which objects float and which objects sink. Some objects like our light wooden box floated on top of the water: we decided they would make a very good boat! Some objects fell all the way to the bottom of our bucket. They sank, and we thought it would not be a good idea to make a boat from these materials. Paper and rock sank really quickly!
You can find the story all about Noi and his Dad here on Youtube:

This week in maths, the children have had a great time folding different shapes to find their lines of symmetry.
In reading, we have been looking at different explanation texts in preparation for writing our own next week.
Reminder to the children to practice their 8 times tables by completing the next three pages in their booklets for their homework!

Hello!
2AH have blown myself and Miss Imran away this week with their passion to learn!
The children have been really lucky this week as we have had Wood Street Mission's roadshow visit our school. The children had a chat with the staff from Wood Street Mission all about reading and were able to choose 5 free books to take home. The children chose their own books, looking at the front covers and reading the blurbs for something they will really enjoy.
In Maths, we have been working on multiplication, practicing our 2, 5 and 10 times tables. The children have been having so much fun dancing to Jack Hartmann's lesson warm-ups, retrieval practice on the iPads and going for times tables scavenger hunts in our outdoor areas. Next week we will be looking at doubling and halving numbers which the children have already been recalling from Year 1.
In English this week, we have started to read 'Winne and Wilbur at Chinese New Year'. We have been discussing all of the amazing adjectives that we can use to describe a Chinese New Year celebration parade, discussing what we can see, hear, smell and feel. The children have loved listening and watching the different ways in which people celebrate such as seeing the red lanterns, dragons, lion dancers, drummers and discussing all of the tasty food. Click this link to listen to 'Winnie and Wilbur at Chinese New Year' : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yuw4L3OEao0
In Geography we have continued our learning of Wuhan and Manchester. This week we have looked at the human features that can be found in both. The children were really excited to discuss the local human features they know such as the Velopark Cycling Centre and the Etihad Stadium. Within the children's homework this week there is a Geography challenge to go on a walk and spot the human features around us, which I am sure all of the family can enjoy.
We have also introduced 'Oscar the Owl' in our class. Oscar is a reading teddy which will be given to a different child each day to take home and read to that night. Please ensure that your child's reading record is being signed each night as we do monitor this and reward children who have had their reading record signed every day.
Thank you,
Miss Hindle.

This afternoon we have been really lucky as Wood Street Mission have been into school and each child has been able to take home 5 books to add to their home collection and enjoy! What a wonderful way to celebrate the importance of reading.
We have also begun tackling two new methods of multiplication in our Arithmatic lesson which will be built upon next week to ensure the knowledge is secure.

This week in Nursery we have been rehearsing the story, I Can Fly, and retelling it with words and actions. To help us remember what happens in a story we think of the words, and say them using finger sentences, then we draw pictures and use symbols. Can you retell the story using just pictures and symbols?
We've had lots of penguin activities this week. We love penguins!
Date: 21st Jan 2025 @ 3:01pm
We received a letter from some penguins who were trapped in ice! We worked in keyworker groups to think of ideas to help free the penguins. Some of the children said the ice needed to melt. Some of the children throught we should crack the ice open to free them. We thought about what he had learned after completing our experiments.

In science we learn about the seasonal changes throughout the year. This year we decided we were going to look at each season in detail as it came over the year. In the classroom we have created a display with each season which we are displaying some of our work over the year. We also decided to take a photo outside in front a tree in our playground over the four seasons to see how it changed over the year.
Last week we discussed the season of winter and the changes that over over the months of December, January and February. Then we took our photo in front of the same tree we saw during Autumn. We discussed how the leaves had fallen off and it was bare. The weather was colder and animals like to hibernate and keep themselves warm underground. We also discussed the kinds of activities we would do during winter and what clothes we must wear. Some people in our class enjoyed winter because they celebrated Christmas or their birthday during this season.

Hello,
The children have really enjoyed multiplication and have enjoyed using songs to help them remeber the 2,5 and 10 timrs table. The children have used objects, drawn pictures and used sentence stems to complete problems and to explain their thinking. Look at their hard work!
The children have enjoyed working with the Manchester City Coach this week. They worked in teams and kicked the footballs to each other. They had to really concentrate and aim the ball accurately at a friend. the friend had to stop the ball and pass it to their friend. They found it a bit tricky!
Another fun filled week
Have a lovely weekend!

Hello and Happy New Year!
Well, it has been a very snowy return back to school. As always, the children have handled the cold, icy weather really well and got on with their learning.
The children have been very busy and have settled back into their learning in a mature and sensibe manner. It has made me feel very proud!
The children enjoyed working in small groups in their Purposeful play session. They focused on sharing and taking turns. They absolutely loved it!
They have also enjoyed working collaboratively and practically in maths lessons. They have been grouping and completing repeated addition problems. Look at their work!
I think you will all agree they have made a fantastic start back!
Have a lovely weekend

What a busy first week back after the Christmas holidays! The weather has been very cold but we have persevered and started our learning for Spring 1 in a positive way.
In maths we have been learning about 3D shapes. We have been learning the names of 3D shapes, matching the shapes and going on a hunt around the classroom to find them in the environment. We also played 'think, pair and share' so that we could remember the shape name and picture.

In maths we have been learning about 2D shapes. We have been recognising what they look like and naming them using the correct vocabulary. We completed some activities in the provision such as creating 2D shape pictures, using geo boards and elastic bands to make 2D shapes. We used lolly pop sticks to make some 2D shapes and played a sorting activity on the website Topmarks.
It's looking very Christmassey in 1AI!
Date: 13th Dec 2024 @ 1:37pm
This week we have had a very busy and Christmassey week! The beginning of the week we had a dress rehearsal of our nativity for KS2 classes. Then on Tuesday we had two performances of the nativity for our grown ups at home. It was a lot of hard work practising the songs, words and dances but it was worth it!
On Thursday it was Christmas Jumper Day for the charity 'Save the Children.' We came to school wearing our festive jumpers, dresses, tops and hats. In the afternoon we met the main person at this time of the year - Father Christmas came to Ravensbury!!!
Date: 13th Dec 2024 @ 12:20pm
Today we created a Christmas tree deocoration. We're so angelic, don't you agree?

We have had an amazing week in 2AH!
It has been very busy across the whole school with Christmas festivities such as the Christmas Fair last week, meeting Father Christmas this week and lots more to come.
I am extremely proud of how the children performed in our EYFS and KS1 Nativity. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the performance, I am sure you have heard lots of line practicing and song singing over the past couple of weeks! It has been lovely to watch how the children have really come into themselves during this first term of Year 2 and the confidence that they brought to the performance just shows how proud they are.
All parents will receive a photo of their child in their nativity costume as mentioned by Mrs Hughes. We also had a whole class photo before our performance, just look at the excitement on the children's faces!

Year 1 have been learning about the senses in science. This week we have been exploring the sense of hearing. We went on a listening walk around the school and recorded all of the sounds that we could hear on our observation sheets. We especially enjoyed exploring the upstairs areas of the school as we don't usually visit these areas. We heard lots of different sounds and shared them as a class.
Date: 3rd Dec 2024 @ 7:09pm
Some of out fabulous year 6 children have been working alongside Rosie, a dance instructor, to refine their street dance skills! Here are some pictures from their performance this week. Thank you so much to the parents, carers and staff who came to watch an cheer on the children. They were amazing! Have a look at our Facebook page to see some videos. Well done to our dancers!

In science this half-term, year 3 have been learning all about light!
As part of our learning, we have learnt how shadows are formed when opaque objects block the light. We then created our own shadow puppets! We used the shadow puppets to perform exciting stories.
