You might want to make a different sound poster with ‘m’ objects like moon, man.
Send in photos of your sound posters to nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk
It’s performance day tomorrow! You will be showing me your favourite rhymes performed in new and interesting ways.

Hello Nursery!
It’s lovely to be back on the Nursery blog. It’s my turn to be posting lots of activities and challenges this week and Miss Heritage is busy thinking of some more fun things to do with you next week.
‘Nursery, Nursery what do you know? Teach me all about how plants grow’
These are challenges to complete any time over the coming week:
Connected Curriculum Weekly Challenge
This week I want you to complete one or more of the challenges on the list. You’re choosing your favourite ways to show me and Miss Heritage what you have learned over the past few weeks about growing and caring for plants.
Reading Weekly Challenge
We are going to read through the story ‘The Tiny Seed’ by Eric Carle and as I read it I want you predict what will happen to the seeds. After that you will be able to tell me all of the interesting things that happen in the story and create drawings with initial sound labels on them.
Vocabulary Weekly Challenge
This week our vocabulary challenge will be learning new verbs. We are going to learn about how the seed moves in ‘The Tiny Seed’ and play games using a vocabulary spinner.
Then you are going to complete one of the verbs action challenges to show me how you move. You can use the vocabulary spinner too.
Home Learning
Send any photos or videos of the challenges you complete at home to me by Friday and I’ll put them all up on the blog for you to share with your friends. This is one of my favourite parts of blogging from home so please send lots and lots of photos or short videos in.

Tomorrow I will start setting you daily phonics and maths challenges :
Maths Daily Challenges
As well as looking for and describing the flowers you see this week, we are going to be creating and drawing them. Then I want you to count how many petals, label them and compare them.
Phonics Daily Challenges
This week is a ‘show me what you have learned’ week in phonics. We are going to have daily challenges using our knowledge of some of our favourite nursery rhymes. There will be lots of challenges to choose from for each Nursery Rhyme. You will be able to show me that you can say the initial sound of objects and create rhyming strings by the end of the week.
I’m so exciting about learning together at home again. I hope you are too!

Good morning and happy Friday! End of the week already! Fingers crossed we get some sun this weekend.
My last wellbeing challenge of the week is a creative one in case you want to spend some time on it over the weekend.
I’d like you to design your own face mask. As we know, face masks are being worn by many people at the moment to keep help them safe. If you had to wear one, what would you like it to look like? You can have whatever you want on it and make it as crazy as you like!
I’ve attached a template if you would like to use it but don’t worry if you don’t have a printer, you can just draw one like I drew mine! Here is mine for you to have a look at, now if only I could sew…
Please send me your designs as I’d love to see them! EALhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Friday 15th May: Phonics - Rhyme
Date: 15th May 2020 @ 7:01am
Hi Nursery!
Let’s remember some of the animals from the rhyming stories we have looked at this week…
You can remind yourself of them by listening to the stories again - just click on the picture of the book below:
Can you act out some of the animals from the story? Enjoy moving around like the animals. For example: a jumping frog, parrot flapping/flying, gorilla thumping chest, snake slithering along the floor, mule trotting, hare hopping, dog responding to instructions (walk, stop, sit, fetch, lie-down)
This week we have found lots of rhyming pairs and created rhyming strings of words.
Now we are going to complete this fun activity, where you need to have a look at the pictures on the rhyming strips to see if you can spot the odd one out!
Watch today’s ‘show me’ for an example, then use the pictures below to have a go at finding the ‘odd one out’ yourself!

Good Morning Nursery!
This week we have looked at the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. In the story the caterpillar eats through some different foods each day.
Can you remember the seven days of the week?
Let’s sing our days of the week song!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtQcnZ2JWsY
We have been looking at the sequence of events in the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’.
Yesterday your challenge was to make your very own ‘Hungry Caterpillar’ and to use your caterpillar to talk about the sequence of events in the story.
I hope you enjoyed making it and talking about what the caterpillar ate each day.
Today I would like you to think about the different activities you do each day.
Here is today’s challenge…
With your grown up, talk about the different activities you do each day.
Create a caterpillar template like the example below and draw a picture or symbol of something you do for each day of the week.
Use your caterpillar to talk through the sequence of the activities you do. Remember to use good sentences when talking. Point to each day on your caterpillar and tell your family the event that you do.
Amazing work!
Well done everyone, you have completed some Marvellous Maths this week!
Remember, we love seeing your work so send your pictures to: nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk
I hope you have a great weekend!

Weekly Connected Curriculum Challenge: Celebrating Special Times
Date: 14th May 2020 @ 12:23pm
Celebrating Special Times
Hi Nursery!
This week for our Connected Curriculum learning, we are thinking about special times and celebrations that we share with our family. (Please refer back to the Connected Curriculum blog posted on Monday)
Your challenge is to plan and prepare a celebration for your favourite teddy / toy!
Yesterday we had a birthday party for one of my daughter’s teddy – Rosie!
We set out some party food and invited some of Rosie’s friends to have a little tea party.
We then danced to some music and played some party games!
We made Rosie a yummy chocolate birthday cake. We put candles on top and sang Happy Birthday to her!
After that we gave Rosie a birthday card that we had made too!
How old do you think Rosie is now? Can you count the candles on her cake and card and say her special number?
Have you planned and prepared a celebration for your teddy / toy’s birthday?
Think about…
How are you going to celebrate? What will you do?
Maybe you would like to have a party, or maybe you would like to make a birthday card or hat.
What do you need to do to prepare a party? Where is the party going to be? What food do you need? Maybe you could make some decorations or even bake a cake!
Think about how old your teddy/toy is going to be.
What special number do you know? How many candles do you need to put on your cake?
Can you draw a picture of a cake and put on the amount of candles for your special number?
Can you make a birthday card, hat or a badge to show your special number?
Remember we would love to see some pictures of you and your favourite teddy / toy celebrating too. Send them to nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk
Enjoy celebrating!
Miss Heritage

Good morning everyone,
I've had a request to make the font on my blog a little easier to read so that some of the younger children can have a go at reading it themselves which is a fantastic idea, so hopefully this will be a bit easier to read!
I hope people enjoyed yesterdays challenge, I know that some people did the Jason Manford quiz at 1.30 so if anyone didn't get the chance to watch Friday the turtle or had any problems accessing the Facebook live video then here it is on YouTube today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvhZZq0UnJI
Today's challenge is one that will hopefully make you and others around you smile. I want you to tell someone a joke! In fact, I think you should try and make as many people laugh as possible! Laughing is very good for both your health and wellbeing and it's certainly one of my favourite things to do, especially if I'm feeling a bit sad.
If you don't know any jokes then have a look at these:
https://inews.co.uk/light-relief/jokes/jokes-kids-funny-497875
Here are some that I like!
What do elves learn in school?
The elf-abet.
Why didn’t the skeleton go to the dance?
He had no body to dance with.
Please e-mail me on EALhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk with your best jokes or any stories of making people laugh.

Past challenges
Thanks to everyone who has sent me pictures of them doing a few of the past challenges, here are a few of them!
Thursday 14th May: Phonics - Rhyme
Date: 14th May 2020 @ 6:31am
Good Morning!
This week we have been learning about rhyme. Why don't you listen and join in some of your favourite rhymes by clicking on the link below:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/curations/nursery-rhymes
I have really enjoyed looking at the rhyming story ‘Oi Frog’, I hope you have too!
Now today we are going to look another rhyming book called ‘Oi Cat’.
You can listen to ‘Oi cat’ by clicking on the link below. When you are listening to the story see is you can hear rhyming pairs of words. You may even be able to help make a rhyming string too!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7G2CNKhDbA
Did you hear lots of rhyming words in the story? Did you help to make a rhyming string?
Fantastic!
For today’s challenge, you are going to create rhyming strings by playing a game called:
Cat in a hat: A list with a twist!
What you’ll need: paper, pen
What to do:
1. On a big sheet of paper, write the word cat. Then underneath write the rhyming sound all down the page (_at).
2. Adults: Ask your child to come up with as many rhyming words as they can. Quite simply, they have to add a letter to the beginning of the word. Don’t worry if it’s a real word or not!
3. Take turns to come up with silly sentences based on the rhymes. Can you make each other laugh?
Play the game again for:
Dog on a log: A list with a twist!
Repeat the game as above, making another list of words that rhyme with the word dog.
We would love to see your rhyming string so make sure you send pictures of your learning to: nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk
I hope you have fun creating your rhyming strings!
Have a great day!
Date: 14th May 2020 @ 6:24am
Let’s get started today by singing the Days of the week!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtQcnZ2JWsY
Yesterday you listened to the story of the ‘Very Hungry Caterpillar’. If you missed it then take a look using the link below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75NQK-Sm1YY
You then used pictures from the story to talk about the sequence of events, using language: first, then, next, after and finally.
Think about the events of the story. Can you remember the order of fruits and food the caterpillar ate? Use the picture cards below to help you.
Talk through the pictures with your grown up and tell them the sequence of what the caterpillar ate.
Today’s challenge is to make your own lift the flap Hungry Caterpillar so you can talk through the sequence of what the caterpillar ate. Take a look at the picture below for an idea of what you will be making!
Ask an adult to help you to prepare the caterpillar.
- Fold a piece of paper and draw 8 circles, starting at the fold.
- Cut out the circles (Remember not to cut along the fold, otherwise the flaps won’t lift!) You might like to colour and draw a face on the first circle (this can just be a flat circle – no flap needed!)
- Next stick the circles on to a long strip of paper, or place them in order. Starting with the head, followed by all the other lift up circles.
- Ask your grown up to write the days on the top of each flap, starting with Monday to Sunday.
- Now use the picture cards below to see the order of what the caterpillar ate, starting with 1 apple.
- Lift up the flap and under each day draw what the caterpillar ate. So under Monday you will need to draw 1 apple, under Tuesday 2 pears and so on.
- You might like to add some colour to your caterpillar and foods.
AMAZING!
Once you have completed drawing the pictures and have coloured your caterpillar, use your caterpillar to tell your grown up the sequence of what he ate by lifting up each flap in turn.
I hope you enjoy creating your caterpillar. We would love to see your work so send your pictures to nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk
Have a great day!

Good morning everyone,
I'm sorry I didn't post a wellbeing challenge yesterday but I was in school! I meant to do it the night before but then forgot and had an early night ready for school yesterday, oops! Sorry about that but I'm back today and have a choice of 2 for you to do to make up for it.
You've been very creative lately (please see the past challenges below!) so I'm giving you something a bit different today. One is i you would like to relax and one is if you would like to have a bit of fun.
The first challenge is to do Jason Manford's comedy kids quiz at 1.30pm today, available from the following YouTube link. If you can't do it at 1.30 then it will be up for a few days after. and if you want more then have a look on his YouTube channel for past quizzes! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhVLZjO7Tms
The second challenge is also at 1.30pm although I think you can watch it later if you're not free then! The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth are doing Turtle Time! A live video of their Green Sea Turtle who is called Friday. I always find watching sea animals very relaxing so you could watch it, learn some facts about turtles and then have a go at drawing the turtle. Ths live video will be on facebook so you'll have to ask an adult to log in to their account if they have one. https://www.facebook.com/NationalMarineAquarium/live/
Please e-mail me to let me know how you did in the quiz or any facts or pictures you have of the turtle! EALhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk
Past Challenges
I've been blown away by the effort you've gone to with these challenges (people have even dressed up!) and every time I get emails with pictures of your challenges it really cheers me up so thank you! Here are some pictures I've received over the last couple of days, thanks to everyone who's sent me one!
Wednesday 13th May: Phonics - Rhyme
Date: 13th May 2020 @ 7:55am
On Monday we looked at the story ‘Oi Frog’ and you found pairs of rhyming words.
You can remind yourself of the story by clicking on the link below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPDyXsSbxOY
Today we are going to continue our work on rhyme and create some rhyming strings.
Your challenge today is to look at the pictures below (snake/cake, fox/box, rat/hat, dog/frog, frog/log, fleas/keys). Say the rhyming pair, then think of another word that rhymes to make a rhyming string.
For example:
mole, pole, hole
mule, stool, pool
Can you draw pictures of your rhyming string? Send photos of your learning to: nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk
Have fun!
Wednesday 13th May: Maths – ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’
Date: 13th May 2020 @ 7:47am
Good morning!
Let’s start our learning singing the days of the week song!
Click on the link below to join in the song.

For the rest of this week we are going to continue our work on sequencing familiar events.
To help us do this we are going to look at the book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’.
You can listen to the story by clicking on the link below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75NQK-Sm1YY
After you have listened to the story, talk with your grown up about the sequence of events. What happened first, then, next, after, at the end?
Your challenge today is to look closely at the picture cards below. Can you describe each picture, then talk about the sequence of events from the story? What happens first, next, after, at the end? (Be careful, the pictures are muddled up!)
Make sure you are using good sentences to talk about the sequence and events.
Have a great day!
Date: 12th May 2020 @ 6:44am
Do you remember reading the book ‘Jaspers beanstalk’? That’s great if you do!
Your first challenge this week is to track the text in the story by pointing to the words.
You can do this by joining in when I read the story and point to the words with me. Remember when we read, we go from left to right and top to bottom.
Have you got your finger ready to track the text with me?
Fantastic! You can watch the story by clicking on the ‘show me’ link below.
CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE SHOW ME OF JASPER’S BEANSTALK
Did you join in with the story? Did you point to the words with me and track the text from left to right and top to bottom? Well done!
When we looked at this book the other week, we discussed the events of the story and you talked about what might happen at the end when Jasper climbed up the beanstalk.
This week we are going to focus on the sequence of ‘how to plant a bean/seed’.
To talk about the sequence, we need to say the order of what we need to do.
I am going to plant some seeds in my garden (with a little help from my big girl!).
Click on the video below to watch ‘how to plant a seed’.
For your next challenge - It would be great if you could plant your own seeds / bulbs / plants / flowers or vegetables at home and tell your grown up the sequence of how to plant.
Explain what you are going to do by using the words: first, next, after and finally.
Don’t worry if you haven’t got any beans / bulbs / plants at home, you could try planting pepper seeds or apple pips instead!
You could also have a go at drawing the sequence of ‘how to plant’ too.
Make sure you send in photos or videos of your learning to:
nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk
Have a great day!
Date: 12th May 2020 @ 6:38am
Yesterday we were ‘Speaking Superheroes’. We used lots of super vocabulary to describe the shapes of objects that we found around our homes and outside too.
Whilst I was in the garden, I noticed lots of lovely shapes on petals and plants.
Will you help me use our ‘Superhero’ words to describe their different shapes?
CLICK HERE TO WATCH TODAY'S SHOW ME CLIP
Show me – tracing shapes using vocabulary from yesterday
Today’s challenge is to trace around the different shapes you have found. You could use your finger to do this or you could draw the shape you can see.
Use your ‘Speaking Superhero’ skills to talk about and describe the different shapes.
Is it tall, long, wide, short, small, straight, curved, round, pointy?
Can you think of any other words to describe the shaped objects you have traced around?
Don’t forget to send your pictures of your learning to nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk
Tuesday 12th May – Rhyming strings
Date: 12th May 2020 @ 6:20am
I hoped you enjoyed yesterday’s rhyming book ‘Oi Frog’. Did you find lots of rhyming pairs in the story?
Now today we are going to use some of these words to make a rhyming string.
At nursery we have baskets of rhyming objects. Hopefully you will remember these items from the baskets.
Challenge: Can you name each object below to make a rhyming string? What end sound do the words have? Can you think of some more words to continue the rhyming string further? (You can make some words up too!)
'at' words
'og' words
We play a game at nursery called ‘beat it’ – We pass the objects around the circle and take turns to say the name of the item being held.
Can you teach this game to your family? Don’t worry if you haven’t got all of the objects - you could help your grown up draw pictures of the rhyming words, then place them in a circle and name each item as you point to each picture. Try to keep in time with the beat of the music and have a little dance too!
Rhyming strings: ‘og’ words: dog, frog, log / ‘at’ words: cat, hat, bat, rat, mat
Click on the link below for ‘beat it’ music

Good morning everyone,
I hope everyone has had a lovely weekend! I spent a lot of time in the sun, in fact possibly a bit too much time! I also had some delicious food and lovely video chats with some of my friends.
Thanks again for all your wellebing challenge e-mails. It really cheers me up whenever I get one and see what you've all been up to!
Today's wellbeing challenge is actually Miss Bryce's idea so thanks Miss Bryce! It's a creative one and is to design your own superhero.
Who would they be?
What would they do?
What would they wear?
Have a think about what is important to you and then either draw, make or write about your superhero.
See the attached picture file for all the details and how it relates to Banksy.
Remember to e-mail EALhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk to show me pictures of your superheroes!
