Good Morning Reception,
Here are the answer’s to yesterday’s ‘Sentence of the Day…’

Today’s sentence of the day is…

Start by playing one word about the story ’10 Little Pirates.’ How many different words can you think of from the story in 1 minute? Listen to the story again from yesterday’s writing blog if you need to.
Today I would like you to practise your reading skills. I want you to read some words or sentences about pirates. Remember to use your segmenting and blending skills. Also don’t forget the tricky words that you should now be reading confidently. After you have read each word or sentence, can you draw or match to a picture?

Good Morning Reception,
Let’s start our phonics today by recapping Phase 3 tricky words and the new tricky words from Phase 4.
Play fastest finger first. Your grown up will say a tricky word and see who finds it the fastest.
Play quick write. Your grown up will say a tricky word and you must write it without looking at the words.
Today we are going to learn a new sound called ‘ow’ think of the word ‘cow’ for this sound. Watch the video at the bottom of this blog where I am teaching you all about this sound.
Here are today’s practise and apply activities, which one will you choose?
Activity 1 – Play ‘ow’ sound roll and read.
Activity 2 – Make a word and use it. Choose a ‘ow’ word and read it. Then write the word and draw a picture of that ‘ow’ word and finally write a sentence using that word.
Activity 3 – Read the ‘ow’ sound story
Activity 4 – Play splat the ‘ow’ word. Find something to use as a splatter, make sure it is safe and check with your grown up. Write some of the ‘ow’ words on scraps of paper and lay them down on the floor inside or outside. Your grown up will say the word and you must splat it. You can also use the ow words from activity 2.

Numbers, numbers all around… which numbers can be found?
Today we are going to be looking at numbers around us and practise recognising numerals we find.

Can you go on a hunt to find lots of numbers?
What numbers can you see around your house or outside when you go for a walk?

You could take photographs of the numbers you find or draw pictures of the objects with their number on.
Can you find the numerals 0,1,2,3,4,5? Where did you see the numbers?

Hey everyone, I hope you have been enjoying our CC topic on Climate Change especially finding out about the climate change warriors and exploring some of the ideas of how we can take positive action to stop climate change. This week we will be looking at how we can become part of the solution even in our own small way using what we have found out. We will also be thinking about our BIG QUESTION: ‘How is Clayton connected with the global community?' by considering how we can be involved in protecting the planet from the problems we have researched.
Last month was Earth Day where people across the globe share their commitments to help protect our earth. Can we make every day Earth day? Let's try! Choose one or two activities below:
1. Make an earth day craft sharing your commitments- try the earth house or craft commitment
2. Write a persuasive letter to a friend encouraging them to commit to Recycle, Re-use, Reduce, Repair or Refuse
3. Create a poster for Earth Day to encourage change

Connected Curriculum challenge - How does your garden grow?

How does your garden grow?
Last term our Connected Curriculum challenges were all about plants and how they grow.
You learned all about how to take care of plants and the things that they need to grow and survive. Some of you also made mini beast hotels and used natural things from your garden to help the mini beasts have a home during this warm weather. You have been able to observe the seasons changing from winter to spring to summer and watch all of the trees and flowers and plants growing and changing with the spring weather.
Now it’s your chance to show off what you know and the things that you have learned. It’s up to you how you show us, here are some ideas…
. You could make a poster or an information booklet
. You could make a model garden
. You could plant something outside and do a report on its growth
. You could make a model of a tree showing the seasons changing
. You could draw different trees and flowers and label them
It’s up to you what you do, be creative and have fun! Don’t forget to send pictures in of your creations to y1homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk
Story Adventure The House on Haunted Hill Part 12

Good morning everyone! It's great to get back to our school routine and I am really looking forward to exploring lots of new topics and tasks this half term. I hope you have been keeping yourselves busy over the half term and also keeping safe.
I have missed following our spooky adventure so let's recap on where we are up to...
We arrived at the house and decided to go round to the back door.
Next we decided to investigate a noise we heard. Unfortunately this lead to our demise!
Then we went back and decided to go down into the cellar.
In the cellar was a filthy cupboard and we decided to open it. Inside we found a key.
After that we climbed the stairs to the house.
The next part terrified me as we went to investigate the mirror, where we were pulled in, never to return.
Then we climbed the stairs and had to choose between a door on the left and a door on the right.
We entered the door on the right and found ourselves in the master bedroom. We had to choose between lying down for a rest or investigating the dressing table.
We next decided to investigate the dressing table. On it was a bottle or Werewolf's blood and one of the options was to take a drink! Luckily we decided to leave this room and try the door on the left.
In this room there was a stream of water pouring from the tap and there was an option to drink it but instead we decided to leave and go back to the room on the right.
So now we are sort of trapped between the right and left room.
Our last two choices were...
Lay down for a rest...
or
Investigate the dressing table where we could drink the blood!
Well today year 6 I am going to choose to lie down and have a rest on the bed! EEKK!
Here goes...
The second you lay your head on the pillow, you know this was the right idea. You are so sleepy and a few minutes will give you the energy you need.
You close your eyes and instantly drift off to sleep.
Unfortunately, you have entered the master’s bedroom and he fell asleep on this bed never to wake. You too will share the master’s fate as you sink into a deep deep sleep that you will never wake from. Your adventure is over.
Oh dear!!
Now we will have to either go to the room on the left to drink the water or stay in this room and drink the blood? What will it be?

Today's maths Challenge-Comparing volume and Capacity
We thought it would be a really good idea to take advantage of the last of the sunshine for this week and take the maths learning outside. Today we are going to use water and containers to learn about capacity.
When we are learning about capacity-how much liquid is in a container, we use words like full, half full, nearly full, nearly empty and empty to describe how much liquid we can see in a container

Challenge 1
Find some containers in the house e.g. pans, cups, dishes and tubs. Fill them up in the paddling pool or in a bowl of water.
Draw the container you have used and how much water it contains. Write the words empty, full, half empty, half full, nearly full and nearly empty to describe how full or empty the container is.
Challenge 2
Ask an adult to write the words empty, full, half empty, half full, nearly full and nearly empty on a piece of paper. Ask them to hold up the words, randomnly . Read the word and fill up the container to match the word.
Challenge 3
Which container holds the least and most water in your house? Draw a picture of each container and how much liquid it held.

Arrrgh…..me hearties!
Now that we are learning about pirates in reception, I thought it would be a great idea if we make a craft linked to our new topic…. And what’s a pirate without their treasure!?
Today we are going to be making… A Pirate Treasure Chest!
How fantastic does that chest look!
You will need:
An Egg Carton
Gold Paint
Sequins
Treasure!( Coins/Gems/Jewellery etc)
How to make:
First, peel off any stickers from your egg box and paint two gold strips across the top! While the paint is wet, lay on a few sequins or glitter to stick to the paint! Add a lock to the front of the treasure box using a silver felt tip or pencil and leave to dry!
Now… get hunting for pieces of treasure!!!!

I am SO impressed to already see lots of fantastic work being emailed in from yesterday!! You are becoming superstars at careful counting and addition! Well done!
Let’s get ready for our maths learning this morning by listening and working out to our 'Count to 100' song below and taking part in today’s fluent-in-five!
This morning we have a very special task to complete…
We need to help the pirate to count his treasure! Take a look at the ‘1-15 Pirate Counting’ video below and help the pirate to count his golden gems!
Yo-ho! Fantastic! What number did you count to? How much treasure did the pirate have? How many gems would the pirate have if you added one more?
Today I would like you to take part in your own treasure counting activity!
You will need:
Tray of sand (or shredded paper)
Coin Cut-Outs (see attachment link – or make your own!)
Treasure Chest Posters (see attachment link)
Activity:
Parents begin by hiding the bronze coin cut-outs in the tray of sand/shredded paper or around the house!
Place the ten-frame poster showing the pirate looking for bronze coins alongside the tray. Children need to look for the bronze coins in the sand and place them onto the ten-frame as they find them. Ask children how many they found and ask them to carefully count and point to each one!
Repeat the activity by hiding the silver coins in the sand. Again, ask children to find them and place them onto the ten-frames to count! For the gold coins, ask children to find them and place them onto the lower-ten frame. The pirate has already found some gold coins so children can count on from ten to find the total number of gold coins!
Next steps:
Provide children with simple addition calculations i.e 2+ 2 and see if children can work this out using the coins and ten-frames! Encourage them to write this as a number sentence!

Good morning Year 5!
I think today is the last day of this incredibly warm weather we've been having - I never thought I'd say this, but I'm quite looking forward to some rain as the garden really needs it! So I hope whatever you get up to today, you manage to get some fresh air in the sunshine!

As we have finished our Space unit, this half-terms science would usually go back to the autumn term, and continue with states of matter. As that is mostly experiments, we have changed things around slightly so that you can do an experiment at home with your grown ups and siblings instead (they may not be states of matter related!) Make sure you send your results in and take photos if you can.
Today's challenge is "does larger feet mean you can jump further?' I've attached a PDF to help you. You need to decide what each of the variables are (what you're going to change and what you will keep the same), there is a method page for you as well as a table of results.

Today’s phonic challenge is to play a game of ‘I spy’ with your grown up.
To play this game you will need to find some of the following objects: hat, cat, cup, mat, dog, hat, zip, peg, pan, pig, sock, can etc.
Place the objects on a tray.
(Adults – name each object with your child to check they can name each one.)
Adult say ‘I spy with my little eye a c-u-p'
Ask your child to say the name of the object and hold it up.
Then encourage your child to say the individual sounds and blend them together ‘c-u-p, cup’.
Repeat for another object. Continue playing the game saying the sounds and identifying the object for all the items on the tray.

Yesterday, we practised our counting skills by counting different groups of minibeasts.

Weekly Vocabulary Challenge – Superworm

Ask your grown up to read this extract from the story which tells us what ‘Superworm’ is like.

Can you talk about your playdough worm too? What words did you use to describe how you are making your worm?
