Weekly Vocabulary Challenge – Superworm
Date: 1st Jun 2020 @ 12:29pm
This week we are looking at the book ‘Superworm’ by Julia Donaldson.
Ask your grown up to read this extract from the story which tells us what ‘Superworm’ is like.
Listen carefully then join in with saying the words that describe ‘Superworm’.
Tell your grown up the words and make up some actions to go with them…
‘Superworm is super-LONG, Superworm is super-STRONG.’
Fantastic!
Challenge 1:
Your first challenge is to find something long and strong. Then have a go at making a long, strong worm using playdough. (I have attached a recipe for you to make your own dough at home)
Now watch the clip below of Miss Heritage making a LONG, STRONG worm with play dough. Listen carefully to the words I use when I am making my worm.
Can you talk about your playdough worm too? What words did you use to describe how you are making your worm?
You can use our ‘Speaking Superhero’ capes for ideas of good words to use as you are making your worm.
Challenge 2:
‘Watch him WIGGLE! See him SQUIRM! Hip, hip, hooray for SUPERWORM!
Next, tell your grown up how ‘Superworm’ moves.
Can you move like Superworm too?
Your next challenge is to practise wiggling and squirming like Superworm.
Join in with the ‘Wiggle it’ dance and wiggle different parts of your body.
