Reading - Jasper's beanstalk
Date: 27th Apr 2020 @ 10:02am
I hope you watched ‘What’s in the box?’ last week. If you didn’t get chance then take a look now to see if you can use the clues to guess our new theme!
Can you think of any books that we might be looking at?
Did you have a guess? Well done if you did!
Our theme for the next couple of weeks is planting and growing!
Here is a picture of the front cover of the book we will be looking at this week.
With your adult have a look at the front cover of the book and talk to your grown up about what you can see (Remember to speak in sentences ‘I can see…’)
Can you point to the title and read it by pointing to the words (Remember to point from left to right)
Talk about the picture: Who is the character? What is he holding? What do you think he is going to do?
Amazing!
Now click on the link below and listen to Miss Heritage reading the story to you!
Following the story, use the photographs and vocabulary mat below to talk about and respond to the story:
Talk about what Jasper wanted to do.
What did he need (tools/gardening equipment)?
What did Jasper do first, next etc?
Encourage your child to talk about what Jasper did on each day.
Talk about how Jasper felt at different parts of the story e.g. happy, excited, bored, sad etc. How do you know he was feeling that way? Can you find a picture to show how he was feeling?
What did Jasper do at the end of the story? What was he looking for?
Do we know any other stories about beanstalks and giants?
Think about what you would like to see at the top of the beanstalk.
Can you draw a picture of what you would find at the top?
Fantastic! I hope you enjoyed this book. I have put another link here for you to watch, listen and join in with the story again. You can repeat the words after each picture!
