Monday 1st June: Phonics
Date: 1st Jun 2020 @ 5:30am
Good Morning Nursery… Welcome back, we hope you have enjoyed your half term break!
This week we are going to complete activities for oral blending and segmenting.
Blending is combining sounds we hear in words and segmenting is separating the sounds we can hear.
So let’s get started…
Today we are going to have a go at oral blending and play a game called ‘Clapping sounds’.
Using the letters that we have learnt so far (s,a,t,p,i,n), we are going to listen and clap the sounds in words then blend the sounds together to say the word.
Take a look at today’s ‘Show me’ clip to join in with listening, clapping and blending together the sounds in words.

Today’s challenge: With your adult, I would like you to have a go at clapping the sounds for the words below:
Listen carefully as you sound out the word.
Then blend the sounds to say the word out-loud:
S-a-t (sat)
P-i-n (pin)
P-a-t (pat)
T-a-p (tap)
P-i-t (pit)
P-i-p (pip)
Ask your grown up to say the sounds in these words – see if you can blend the sounds, say the word then do the action!
s-i-t, p-a-t, r-u-n, h-o-p, j-o-g.
Well done! It would be great if you can keep practising your oral blending skills throughout the day, which other words can you sound out and say?
Have a great day and we will have some more phonics fun tomorrow!
